Saw this discussed in another unrelated topic and thought I'd make my own separate post about it. This originates when GrigioGuy said:

I do believe this exists, too. We just need to track down a taping of the premiere from August 11th, 1991. Simple as that.

There is a recording of the entire Nicktoons premiere block (Doug, Rugrats and The Ren & Stimpy Show), on archive.org:

...unfortunately, the recording starts right AFTER the Doug intro. So, if this exists, it's STILL lost.

EDIT: It appears this comes from a MySpleen torrent that was actually a recording of the encore broadcast of the block, shown at 8 P.M. on Nick at Nite. They actually premiered at 10 A.M. on Nickelodeon proper.

Just for clarification on where the suspected cut was made, and what the suspected cut contained, from Reddit:

My memory before this cut was that Skeeter slides slowly down the screen, still holding the "rope," which creates that line that Doug pops out from a second later. It's only 3-5 seconds they cut out, but it's been bothering me for decades, since that time would undoubtedly affect the Doug theme song as well.

Now, that actually sounds familiar to me, but keep this in mind: I was VERY young when Doug left Nickelodeon. The show is actually older than me by three days short of a year, so there's no way I could remember watching it during the first season (I was only 4 years old when new episodes starting premiering on Disney's One Saturday Morning, though I do, in fact, remember this happening in real time). So if I saw it, it would have had to have aired past the first season.

It's more likely, however, that I am experiencing the Mandela Effect.

If you kind of look closely at the time when doug floats up and roger comes out looks cut too. So here is my main guess, they redid the theme song and did a little cutting too match it up. I really like odd stuff like this but sadly looks like we need to find a TV recording of the show from back in 91.

Most likely. I can picture Skeeter sliding down the screen clear as day, but I am 99.9% certain that I never saw such a thing.

Isn't there a full performance of the song? In fact, isn't there a full version of just the song on YouTube? Looking at the full version of just the song itself could help us determine what was cut exactly

Actually, an official extended version does exist (but that's not it). It can be found on the "Music from Doug" CD, which was a promotional item that was not widely distributed.
