This thread was originally about the Discord. I haven't been on much, but I think it suffers from a couple additional problems. First, it and the Chatango seem to serve identical functions. Second, that function hasn't been defined very well in my opinion. They're real-time lost media chat sessions... for what? Sharing advice and tips? Speculating about media? Things like the "bot games" and "music bot" just seem to be extras.

I see the forum as being more formal, the Discord as being more casual, and the chatango as being "why do we have this, again?" You can see it on every page, and it's so rarely active.

The main reason most people aren't attracted to the chatango is because it's reminiscent of group texts, where there isn't really a central theme, just people talking. I use it from time to time, but there really isn't any reason to use it other than sending announcements that something's been found, or to attract attention to a search every now and then. I think we should keep it because it's important to notify people of the goings on for those of us who don't use the forums (which I'd imagine is a majority of the LMW).

This is so sad, can we hit 50 likes?

If the mods are friends with certain posters and openly play favorites, it can lead to a really toxic environment. When mods selectively enforce the rules because they don't like you, it can drive posters away. When a mod is an open bigot who antagonizes you for being LGBT, it can lead to a mass exodus of users and a stain on the legacy of what the board was about in the first place.

And in the case of people who might not know a search is going on, this would be a great way for extra exposure and could lead to certain threads getting bigger within each genre board, so we can have multiple "big" searches at once instead of just banking on a new ADWSS consuming the entirety of the forums.

I tried not to format that as a complaint but its just something that I've always felt the forums could benefit from, but I guess I'm not even sure if that's possible.

Separating the forums even further by genre and/or form of media and/or decade of release would be a fantastic idea. I second this suggestion.

I used to try and interact in the discord but would get frustrated with the randos who would spam outright lies about "seeing" lost media that didn't exist, or the fact the conversations would basically end or constantly get interrupted with other requests. Although I do think things get solved faster in the discord (if the right attention is on it), because you have faster correspondence with the person who is looking for whatever. I think individual discords or the special hunt sections are better for joint efforts. The main discord as a whole is more of a hub for interaction, but I personally feel I've had more success in that department on the forums than I did in the discord.
