With all due respect to the OP admin, an important thing to mention here is that Discord users are part of the more modern internet, as forums have struggled to keep up with the changes. So the fact that most of what they said applies to the Discord users doesn't surprise me.
You have two very different types of online users here. I have been going to the wiki since 2015 and it has improved from the perspective of someone like me who completely focused on the content coming from there. I feel this site is better than it ever was, and it will probably only continue to improve at this rate.
Discord is very modern internet, it's nature is memes, shitposting and other such things, and as time goes on forums will have to figure out how to adapt to this new breed of users if they want to continue to grow.
Eh, Discord has been running into trouble with it's increasingly intense moderation, and I fear it will follow the same path as what Microsoft did to Skype, and what happened to Twitter, Facebook, and Reddit, increasing overmoderation. Forums are moderated independently and can avoid these problems.

I've noticed that a lot of guests are watching the forums, but aren't doing anything. Not really sure what the point of lurking this forum is unless you're just looking at the found threads..

My point was that the admin also talked about the wiki and overall direction of the site. I think it's going very well, but discord users are different from the traditional forum users and hence their online behavior is different. Forums will have to adapt to these people if they want to still see activity.

Forums have no need to 'adapt' to these people, and there is no potential way unless you want to modify the actual way forums work entirely.
We have the chatango, anyways, which provides instant communication, if limited.

Considering an entire thread was made about them, I don't think that's true. You're missing the point. OP talked about these specific types of users. If forums want to continue to exist and grow, forums will have to adapt and change with the times, or be phased out.

Forums cannot adapt to these changed lest they cease being forums at all. The forum format is the antithesis to something like discord.

Not really. I see your point but the internet is different now and considering this thread exists there's enough a problem between the two. Forums will die if they continue to have your mindset. You said yourself, the forums have less activity. A bit more tolerance for the memes and shitposting wouldn't hurt.

This forum has less activity because it is increasingly fractured between platforms because nobody can seem to decide where the hub for lost media actually should be. There are forums that are still alive and active, this forum is just more obscure than a lot of others.
For instance, "chan" boards are still pretty active, and Reddit itself is almost just a slightly upgraded forum in it's layout, at least until their "Facebook-style" update ruins that.
What we really need to do is focus on making this where lost media is discussed more often than other platforms, rather than segmenting us between multiple social medias, not just here and Discord.

I figured as such. Users are not focusing on here completely, but rather, newer forms of communication. You didn't say anything false or that I disagree with, but the ending of your post is the focus. The internet has changed, forums are outdated, unless you are willing to accommodate the new breed of internet users you won't get anywhere. The chans and reddit are not what I meant, I'm referring to more traditional bbs or phpbb style forums.

The chans and Reddit operate in much the same way, using """outdated""" forum styles. Reddit's administration even wants to move to a redesign that is more "in date" and the community wants nothing to do with it. 4chan has only vaguely updated since 2chan's format in 2001, but has maintained essentially the same amount of popularity, even getting more popular in recent years, despite being quite possibly even clunkier than even regular forum formats. By all means, 4chan's format is almost as traditional as phpbb, even coming into existence around the same time.
In a way, modern social media itself is outdated, most platforms having no clue on how to operate while actually making a profit, and Facebook, so far one of the only longstanding actually profitable web2.0 services, has run into a lot of trouble with big gov due to privacy concerns and is bleeding users, at the same time unable to connect with Gen Zed. Google+, despite by all means being "new", never found great success and I am unsure if it's ever been profitable for Google, just like Youtube has never been. Twitter has been a tough sell, and is just now on the decline. These are all services newer than Forums, and yet they themselves aren't really "in-date" in any usable way, especially for the companies that made them. Discord isn't something I'd really call much of a social media, it's more of a group chat than anything, but yes, it is gaining popularity. I don't think this spells death for Forums. *We* just don't know how to handle it, but honestly, this forum has never been terribly popular in the first place, and the activity it has had mostly focused on the threads that corresponded with then-popular searches like cracks and clockman.

Things change. Of course some of the newer sites can decline too, I'm not sure why you randomly decided to become so invested in this. How can anybody deny that the old internet has come and gone? I've seen many forums die, or remain on life support with it's users complaining of hardly any activity or new users. 4chan and reddit are great at adapting to what new users want, forums are not. As a lurker of 3 years I think it probably would have been best if I just stuck to lurking instead of going on here anyway. But from my perspective the site is doing great, and I thought the admin should know that.

Unless you're talking about moderation, 4chan's overall layout has evolved almost zero from what it originally was. Moderation has actually been on the decline, and at one point they began censoring entire terms off the site, which many people of course did not like, and yet it is still popular today.
Reddit, again, has been, especially in the past few years, absolutely terrible at adapting to what the userbase wants, and it especially shows with the "redesign".
"Things change" is a vague statement that needs to be applied to make sense. Yes, forums die, but it seems to me to be more of the fault of the topic of the forum going into obscurity.

I wasn't talking about design when it comes to 4chan. The ever-changing nature of the site means that it can very easily adapt to whatever the users want it to be. It ebbs and flows with the user base instead of pinning down a static culture like forums do. Reddit, too, is adaptable in this sense. I didn't mean the redesigns for those sites - although designs could matter if we're talking about all these sites generally. Things change means exactly what it says. There is nothing else to glean from that, there's no reason for you to try to turn that into an intellectual debate. I have no idea why you just randomly decided to so viciously take up this topic as a cause, but this exchange has really made me lose my taste for this community.

I wasn't trying to be rude, just explain my side. I should have probably called it off a while ago. Don't think this conversation reflects the entire site, man. This is as heated as I've seen anything get on here, and this is nothing in comparison to what I've seen off forum.
Finding lost media is niche. It can be aggravating when you put in a ton of work and it doesn't seem to go anywhere. It can be disappointing when you run into nothing but dead ends. On the other hand, finding something previously thought to be lost is a rush.
I'm generally attracted to working on things that a) I have heard of b) have a topical interest in or c) have some unusual facet
I'll also take a look at threads if they don't have any replies to see if I can help out a newbie.
This thread was originally about the Discord. I haven't been on much, but I think it suffers from a couple additional problems. First, it and the Chatango seem to serve identical functions. Second, that function hasn't been defined very well in my opinion. They're real-time lost media chat sessions... for what? Sharing advice and tips? Speculating about media? Things like the "bot games" and "music bot" just seem to be extras.
I see the forum as being more formal, the Discord as being more casual, and the chatango as being "why do we have this, again?" You can see it on every page, and it's so rarely active.
"Weekend? It's Monday already."
