Thought it might be amusing to discuss silly gaffes/faux paus we did back when we were first learning how the internet and/or computers and/or digital media worked.

1. I didn't know how to bookmark anything or save/copy links so I used the same ye olde search engine EVERY SINGLE time I went to a fansite.
2. I was trying to post on a discussion board and kept direct messaging people instead of posting in the DANG BOX. I felt confused and sort of hurt when people responded back the way they did, then I realized my mistake. WOOPS.
3. Went to a old...."rent free" media (cough) site and gave our family computer a yucky virus. This happened to be the day before my family was trying to print out tickets the next morning and we kept getting "computer under attack!" pop up messages on my computer. AS THEY WERE TRYING TO PRINT OUR TICKETS <_< I claimed that it happened from a legit review site, and for some reason, never really got in trouble for that one.
4. I thought that digital art was easy, because you just "press buttons," right? Then I actually started doing legit graphic design projects and...oh dear XD

I used to use floppy discs in the public library to save my progress in flashgames not sure if that counts for this thread but it's still a funny memory.

Another fun thing i did was typing in random words and adding .com at the end to see what came up ended up finding a ton of really weird websites and forums and the like from way back when; also probably gave the family PC a trillion and one virus's.

I'm committing tax fraud using microsoft excel

Haha, did you even know what a virus was then? I vaguely knew, but still ended up at shady websites too occasionally (moreso as I got older, when super young, stuck almost entirely to legit kids websites).

I got really into search engines at one point and also just started putting in random shows/games I liked. Ended up at a Sonic fanart site, called like SonicZone or something, found some appealing art of an OC, the artist commented on just having given birth to a kid and I was SO confused...I didn't realize that you could be an adult AND still like Sonic AND do Sonic fanart! (LOL) It was a pleasant surprise to me.

So i grew up in the 2000's (born in 1999) so PC's were becoming way more common and the great fear of a virus was ever present like, something wrong with yuor PC? Erm virus alert!!!! PC running slow? VIRUS ALERT!!!! Did you download a new game? THAT'S A VIRUS!

Minecraft? that's no game, that's a virus!

so the ever looming fear was always there but it wasn't something i actively had any knowledge about

I played flash games, but it was on normal websites like friv and igrezadecu (i think only Serbian kids remember it). They're still up.

I played a lot of Poptropica back in the day, though its sad to see that they removed some of my favorite islands like Mystery Train Island and Counterfeit Island due to not being able to support flash anymore.

Despite the frustrations of normal day life we go through, the best thing to do about it is still being happy for our friends and family.

Hey no shame in playing licensed games if they are genuinely fun! Heck plenty of "classic" kids/family entertainment has had ads of some type. I personally wanted those Klasky Csupo Ronald McDonald VHS tapes as a kid LOL
