Played a lot of forum-based RP's and I kinda want to get back into it.
Sounds fun! I only really did actual discussion forums, but there was one page on a Hamtaro fansite where the site creator pretended to be the characters and answer questions in character. Super fun stuff.

I miss the golden age of web forums they're such a thing of the past now-adays and it's kinda sad.
Yeah, I miss them too. Ironically there was more "personality/energy" there for me than modern social media. Though that may just be that my real name/profile is not attached to any of my forum adventures so I feel comfortable saying a lot of stuff I wouldn't on my "real" profiles XD Or both. Probably both in my case. That was a real special time, when a new movie/book/game came out and you would just be exploring it with like-minded people for hours, weeks, months. A natural gathering spot for groups of people who all liked that thing too. Yahoo groups, individual forums, IMDB forums, etc. Anticipating new episodes of a TV show and what would happen next. Giving and debating predictions. Good stuff!
I played a lot of Poptropica back in the day, though its sad to see that they removed some of my favorite islands like Mystery Train Island and Counterfeit Island due to not being able to support flash anymore.
Death of flash was almost like death of old internet. So much cool stuff (including le epic MAYMAYS) was fueled by it.

Man I've been going through the BootlegGames Wiki Forums & I saw some cool interactions all around there that are straight out of the early-mid 2010s, when forums were on a slow decline. It still gets new posts thankfully, but A LOT of it is quite old & thus it can feel like you're looking into the olden days of a community.

Big same, im only AshleyInWonderland on web forums and for that i'm only on two forums that are active (this one and a secret second one)
with modern social media it's far too easy to get at eachothers throats for Ghits and Shiggles like if i call someone a dick on twitter we both move on but on a forum it's like having beef in school cause you'll bump into them in another thread
I spent WAY more time reading anime blogs/reviews than actually watching anime back in the day. It was so funny, because I would constantly read "Watch this show, it's so good" week after week and then I'd be like, "I should watch that show" and then never did.

LMAO kinda like me. I've watched some videos from Anime America & there are some anime that Robyn, the main person on the channel, recommends but I haven't gotten around to watching(especially since some of them are on services I don't ever want, such as Disgust+ & Poisonroll).

Similarly I used to read a lot of Gamefaqs guides for games I didn't even have just for the heck of it, while some of those games I did end up eventually getting, there were a number of them that I never did. Also read a lot of fan reviews on that site, while a lot were poorly written there were some really entertaining ones. One of the most hilarious was an absolutely brutal review for a Land Before Time game on Game Boy Color.
I totally used Wordpress to publish parts of a visual novel "choose your own adventure story" adaptation I was TOTALLY gonna finish you guys and be all rich and famous. Which totally didn't happen haha.
When I got REALLY into fandoms, I got bizarrely deep into combing Livejournal (of all things) for any mention of them. Especially shippy stories, those weird stamps, etc. And this was long after Livejournal had relevance. I think the last time I even saw it mentioned anywhere notable was that very brief scene in The Social Network (I think it was Livejournal?).
When I would get into foreign languages, I didn't know how to actually search in said foreign language, and so would get the most random videos and content, usually like odd fandubs of stuff like a Touhou Project song.

Heh I did the same thing! I had strategy guides for games like Metroid Prime(I had the 2 in 1 guide for both Fusion and Prime) and Sonic Adventure for at least a year or so before I actually bought the games. I too learned a decent amount of vocabulary from those guides, I also noticed some mistakes made in them(the Prima Guide for SA on the Dreamcast repeats one bit in Emerald Coast on another stage later on in the book).
I used to frequent deviantart a lot as a teenager, and so I would peruse the forums to try and make friends. One day I decide, I'm going to tell a funny joke. So my subject line is: "why is 6 afraid of 7?" And then the post was: "because 7 is a sociopathic serial killer."
Everyone and their mother got so angry at me. It was just a barrage of hate messages, people telling me that I was stupid or much worse. I don't think I posted it in anything where that would have been necessarily disruptive? Probably in a general section.
Mods eventually removed it, and admonished me for making it. And to be quite honest, I still don't know WHY it made people so angry. It wasn't a moral stance, this was 2008, people were edgy as hell back then.
