And I’m not talking “so bad it’s good”, I’m talking genuinely insufferable to sit through. Don’t be afraid to include indie projects, or movies that are otherwise widely beloved, as long as it’s sometching you hate with a passion. Just refrain from attacking cast/crew members. Criticize their work on the project if you feel it’s necessary, but don’t attack them as a person. I can never be too careful.

Any bad comedies, especially the ones that try to be "MaTuRe hurr durr ADuLt StuFf." That just comes across as being for edgy 12 years only. And when a joke fails to land over and over and OVER again, it becomes a nauseating experience. So any of those dumb "spoof movies" can qualify here-Disaster Movie, Epic Movie, Meet the Spartans, etc. (Dance Movie was just okay, I didn't actually 100% hate that one) My family tried renting Vampires Suck and were so grossed out by it that the DVD was readied to go back to Blockbuster within 20 minutes of putting it in.
Dark Heaven comes to mind, according to someone on Cinemageddon who actually met the director at a screening for the film he was a massively arrogant pretentious jerk who thought he was immensely talented and I can't say i'm surprised, that film was boring and poorly made in every aspect, I remember renting it from the video store as a kid on a whim and actually feeling physically drained after watching the film because of how ungodly fucking dull it was.
Frozen Flesh and Madman(2007) as well.
For worst TV shows i'd probably say something like 12 Oz Mouse which thinks it's being oh so clever and meta by being "bad on purpose" but is actually just smarmy, pretentious and unwatchable.

I disagree I personally like that kind of edgy humor(and I think the 2008 film College is woefully underrated and underappreciated i'm with Dustin Putman on that one) and i'll freely admit to having unironically enjoyed those Selzer-Berg spoof films, I know they're stupid as hell but I couldn't help but laugh at them(the Chipmunks in Disaster Movie suddenly going all Death Metal fucking killed me)
I think you missed out with Vampires Suck, that ones actually a bit more clever then their spoof films(even detractors of their spoof films agree) and i'd be glad to send you a digital copy via Mega.nz so you can finish it.
I despise movies where the entire premise and background is repulsive on it's head like Birth of a Nation far more, I don't care how "important" that film was(and i've heard that it actually wasn't as "innovative" as historians claimed as most of it's techniques had already been done before in other lesser known movies so it does not even have that going for it)it's vile and poorly done in every aspect(and it apparently led to the revival of the Klan)and nobody should ever see it if they value their sanity.
The Idol is so unpleasant to watch. It tries so hard to be a commentary but comes off as someone's weird fetish material.
I thought that show as interesting but didn't quite live up to it's full potential, it's nowhere near as awful as critics say. You want a truly bad mainstream show try The Secret Diary of Desmond Pfeiffer. How that thing ever got greenlit is a true mystery to me.
I also fucking LOATHE Touched By an Angel, how that treacly maudlin piece of shit show lasted for so long is beyond me.

Boo, I sat through the whole show. I am not basing this off of what critics say, it’s just vile. I don’t want recommendations for things you want me to hate more. Usually when I watch bad media, I usually don’t care. But I genuinely hate The Idol, and I don’t really want people to try to convince me otherwise.

I don't think it's "vile" in the least. I'm just saying there's way worse stuff out there, not recommending it. I think the show is too laughable to be vile personally as it has a very outdated view on what being a pop star is like(as Todd in the Shadows pointed out the show feels like it's stuck in the 2000s).

As damaging as it was, the film was the most popular movie of all time at the time of its release, and is an important signifier of the attitudes of the era. Confining important works like this to the dust bin, as reprehensible as they might be, is akin to insisting that the mindsets they depict never happened. As an archivist, you should realize the need to be impartial in your work. Emotion and ideology have no place in the world of preservation.
"oooh, you're a- a freaked out child in the woods..."

I work in a college film department and I'm unsure if they even show Birth of a Nation anymore. I'm kinda tempted to ask the professors I work for what they think at this point, since the outlook on film has changed considerably in the last several years. Come to think of it, I didn't even see the film in my undergrad film degree.
Instead I was subjected to: Citizen Kane 2001 A Space Odyssey Pink Flamingos (I was in a cult film class) Metropolis Modern Times The General A ton of avant-garde films
There's much more but I'm blanking out on them. I think the biggest was Kubrick, I had to watch so many Kubrick films.

That would be an interesting point of view to hear about.

I'm gonna say this, I did not care for 2001 A Space Odyssey. I should watch it again, and I do understand why it was influential....but God does it drag.

Agreed 100%, and screw anyone who tries to give the "oh you need to watch it more then once to "get it" excuse, a truly good film should be enjoyable the FIRST time you see it and multiple viewings should not be required, I ain't got that kind of time to waste.
Influential does not always mean good.
I was never forced to watch Kubrick thank fuck, I tried 2001 more out of curiosity then anything else and even with fast-forwarding it at 2x speed it still bored the piss out of me(if I tried watching it at normal speed there's no way I could've made it).

Idk, I liked The Shining as a kid. I haven't watched it in years though. Was thinking of going to my local theater where they're doing a double feature of Psycho and The Shining.
There was an indie movie I saw a dozen or so years ago that came on one of those low cost DVD 'action movie pack' bundles. I forget the name of it, probably still have it somewhere, but anyway the entire movie is about this hitman being betrayed by his own agency. The movie was hard to sit through because interspersed with brief scenes of badly written dialogue and low budget fight scenes, the star of the film just sits in the desert MANY times in silence while the camera just sits in focus on him, adding nothing to the plot. I'm guessing the director wanted to go for some artsy idea but the execution was just downright boring. Maybe why I forgot the name of the film, it's so horribly bad.
Another one that I do remember the name to is Starship Rising, a very horribly put together indie sci-fi movie that was trying to be a rip-off of Star Wars and the modern Battlestar Galactica. The dialogue is bad, the acting is bad, the CG is bad, and the big bad of the movie is trying to be a rip-off of the Emperor from Star Wars who whispers every line of his dialogue so low that I had to turn the volume up very loud and still couldn't understand him. This movie was so bad I could only stand watching it for 30 minutes before shutting it off and selling it to a local comic shop dealer.
