Yeah, kind of weird in hindsight that the idea of having a diverse cast of angels could be considered too "woke" today by the same audience who ate it up in the 90s. Almost like these things go in cycles...
Haha, not saying anything bad about Friends there, just that it was considered a "no go show" by a lot of 90s religious conservatives since it portrayed "sinful living" (I remember complaints about it well into the 2000s) I can't help if wonder if a number of the those same haters and ranters were just jealous and bitter that they never got to live that kind of life (IE instead, they got tied down early with miserable job, marriage, kids, etc.) and were just lashing out in response. Who knows. I am ambivalent towards it personally since I haven't watched much of it.
In terms of other media I think is deplorable, Eragon is especially awful, both as an adaptation and as a stand alone movie. You can tell it was made during that "QUICK WE NEED TO FIND THE NEXT/OUR OWN HARRY POTTER" film phase that a lot of companies went through.
I actually bought a ticket for Eragon just so I could sneak in to see Primeval(as I was underage at the time). I did like the song Avril Lavigne did for the film but that's about it.
Another laughably bad film trying to be the next Harry Potter is The Seeker: The Dark is Rising, that thing came out and flopped so bad most people haven't even heard of it.
