It wasn't a thread, or at least I never saw the thread...in fact I think I was supposed to make the thread for it?
It was in another "unpopular opinion" thread where I suggested we start looking together for the media that seems ignored, and somebody suggested a 3D movie that was only made for theaters. I'm sure I can find it again. I'll look.
Edit: Idk why, but I feel like it was crumbelivable who suggested it to me
That sounds a bit familiar. I'm way out of the loop these days.
See above. It was Cyberworld 3d
"oooh, you're a- a freaked out child in the woods..."
Thank you for this post (and everyone who replied!). It was sad to see the two episodes of Turn-On officially posted to Youtube and to get entirely ignored by the community (I know a few outsiders who were very excited to see them). Everything should be found but when you're talking about bumpers and lost videos by lost media video creators.... I don't know.
My only disagreement involves pilots - I've always been fascinated by them, and recently huge troves of them have been discovered (again, not discussed within the community). They're interesting and sometimes clearly should have been made into a series. That might just be me.
I love this site and appreciate the Wiki and everything, it's not you. I almost think we need someone interested in the real niche stuff to start making Youtube videos about it and not worry about getting lower views than others.

haha funny to see Turn On mentioned. To be fair, it was ignored in the beginning mainly because it was drowned out in messages and taken down within a week of being uploaded, so the news hadn't quite got the chance to spread. But, yeah, I still get what you mean.
And just to be clear, I don't mind pilots being searched for, I think they're definitely interesting and fun to watch. I just think there are other things that deserve just as big as a spotlight that aren't getting it, y'know?
And yeah, a YouTuber making videos on niche lost media would be cool. I have a channel myself but not enough time and motivation to tackle that idea.

Part of that might be due to the show's age and not many people knowing about it, also i'd assumed it had already been found ages ago.

I was actually contacted about Turn On being found and was interested in its history to talk about the episodes in a video. However, the person who came forward with the episodes claimed to have stolen them from the Paley Center which made most people not want to discuss them further.
I don't know if the YouTube uploads were from the same person who allegedly stole them, or if they actually were stolen, but I was in the discord server when this was being discussed and I thought if I mentioned it in a video it would only lead to more controversy.

I would love to make videos on my searches but I just don't have the time.

To be honest, I agree. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a good tv bumper, commercial or lost pilot being found every now and then, but when it makes up at least 80% of what we’ve found this year so far, it gets very old.
I would say that anything that released but later unavailable, was intended for a release (cancelled movies or deleted scenes), or something that was made for another piece of media (alternate cuts or lost pilots) all count as lost media. I don’t know if I’m the only one, and I don’t mean to attack anyone who thinks this way, but I just don’t agree when people claim something can only be lost media if it was publicly available at one point, but later made unavailable. The most exciting finds were things that were never intended for release, like cancelled movies or workprints.
There’s my 2 cents on the matter. I hope I don’t cause any arguments though.

I meant to bring this up in my tangent from earlier, but the only time I don't agree with not looking for something like a pilot is if the creator does not want it to be seen. For instance, it's very obvious Van Partible does not want the Johnny Bravo pilot released. Maybe he's embarrassed by it, or it didn't age well. Either way, I feel bad he gets asked over and over again. We should respect his stance regardless.
Which then I begin to wonder, do we have a right to demand for an artist's work to be public if it wasn't meant for us in the first place? I mean there's no real answer to that. The letters van Gogh wrote to his brother Theo was obviously not meant for our eyes, but we do consider the letters an important part of art history.

I still really want to see the Johnny bravo pilot, but I can see why he doesn’t want it to be shown. But sometimes, lost media just feels more special if it’s something that was never meant for the public’s eyes, or wasn’t meant to be seen anymore (like a cancelled movie).

Thanks lostmedia1975 I'm glad you enjoy the content!
Mess O' Blues has always been an interesting search for the fact that Van Partible is so heavily involved in its search. I'm not even sure if the issue is the fact that he doesn't want people to see it, it's the fact that he's the only one with a copy. I do still see a few people push the topic but since he's already made his opinion clear and there's nothing else anyone can do to find it, the search is closed.
Though that probably brings up a larger discussion when it comes to content that creators don't want released. I think someone asked me about this on stream once and I said, going after content that creators don't want seen depends on how strong of a connection they have to it.
For example if Mess O' Blues was released onto limited VHS that Van and a few of his friends had, yeah I would say don't go around and ask all his friends or try and source what happened to the remaining tapes since it would be such a small pool of people.
However, if Joe Murray said he didn't want the Camp Lazlo pilot to be released, doesn't have a copy himself, and is currently owned by Cartoon Network, I don't feel like it's as invasive to ask a large company like that or someone who was just hired to work on it from the studio for a copy.
Again though this is all in theory, if there was something offensive in the Camp Lazlo pilot or a negative factor for why it was lost, then I think that's something else that would have to be considered.

True that. By the way, I sent you another message for the video idea.
I know they don’t want it to be released, but I still really hope the mess o’ blues animation will be released, probably after Van Partible himself is dead and gives his friends his blessing to release it.
Also, I don’t know if it’s just me, but his last name sounds like a type of car, like a Toyota, Cadillac, Hearse, Etc. No offense to him, just thought I’d point it out.
