I'm very tired and irrtated with this community

I agree, i'm baffled to see bumpers and commercials getting more attention then actual lost TV shows and movies, it is frustrating for sure.

I too remain baffled as to why anyone would want to try and find NSFL media like anything involving that one reporter(who I won't name out of respect to her family).

Kids media I can understand as there is some legit fascinating lost media there that i'd love to find such as seasons 2 and 3 of Romeo, The Jersey and Noah Knows Best but unfortunately those don't seem to attract nearly as much interest compared to Treehouse TV stuff which I honestly don't care much about.

I did find Behind Closed Doors fascinating but I can't say i'd be too broken up if it was never found and i'm indifferent as to whether or not any more pages from it surface in the future.

I'm not against those channels being covered, but unfortunately the actual significant lost media from them like Out of Jimmy's Head and Cousin Skeeter seems to rarely get much traction.

I feel like the attraction people have for things like pilots is that exactly they were never meant to be seen and it's frankly a miracle that so many are able to be found and I'm glad all the people here did the effort to unearth them, they allow us to see how the beloved tv shows we watched were able to be made in the first place (the form that allowed them to be pitched and accepted) as well as showing us the evolution of the creative process and vision behind the shows and imagine fun what ifs for if the final shows stayed closer to the early visions of them. One particularly interesting pilot is the Fairly Odd Parents pilot I just watched recently and just how it differs greatly from what eventually was made (as well as introducing me to the actress was supposed to voice Timmy and her tragic story, the late wonderful Mary Kay Bergman, rest in peace). Pilots also personally introduced me to shows like Bluey of which I'm a fan since then. The original intention of who should view these pieces of media shouldn't really matter for me considering a lot of work and effort was put into them and their creators often don't realize their value like many of us discarding things our grandchildren would have loved to see. I thing this post is a bit unfair to them.

If people are interested in things others might find niche or unworthy of being saved, good for them, we should praise their search efforts because in the end, it's the passion for saving things you care about and saving our mediatic legacy big and small that matter and the more people interested in it, the better. You should be happy for them (doesn't excuse toxic or attention-seeking-no-delivery behaviour but we should remember they're only a loud minority and most people are chill about it), they're having fun, does it matter if it's bumpers that makes them happy?

My main issue with pilot hunts is yes they are cool and they are valuable but I don't really think it's appropriate to consider them lost media. None of these pilots were ever lost, they're exactly where they're meant to be, in their respective studios. I have no problem with them being found but I don't think its something that is super important like many people make it sound. I also have no problem with people being happy looking for bumpers or commercials or whatever. I am bothered, however, by how many people sensationalize these things. So much effort, time, and excitement is put into things that are so miniscule. Its impressive how much passion some of these people have but I wish that same passion was put into finding things that really need to be found and were actually meant to be seen by the public.

I get where you're coming from, but you're treating something totally subjective as if it's 100% objective. No piece of lost media is more important than the next, and getting upset that there is more of an interest in lost pilots or commercials than other forms of media isn't going to change anything. Why not create a new thread for a piece of lost media you're interested in? Why not help contribute to a topic you're passionate about? Shrugging off the community as if it has "gone downhill" because a greater amount of people are looking for a certain subject you're not interested in personally is counterproductive and won't help the matter at hand.

While I agree this is an entirely subjective topic I will disagree and say that there are definitely pieces of lost media more important than others. You cannot tell me the lost works of Shakespeare are just as important as a YouTube Poop that garnered 300 views. And I know I'm probably not gonna change anything with this post, but I wanted to speak my peace anyway. I always have supported people looking for the little things and I commend their passion for it, but at this point it seems the little things have overtaken searching for the big things. I know I am not alone in feeling this way. I have seen people actively pressure others to help search for things. If you participate in the Discord server, the On The Hunt channels were created exactly for this reason. My problem is not just people searching for things that I find to be less important than others (which I know is a matter of opinion), but I also have a problem with many member's entitlement. I have seen many people whine about not being helped in their topic, begging leads, or complaining that the moderators don't want to be affiliated with leaked content.


I have created multiple threads, I have created multiple articles, and I have found multiple pieces of lost media. Nearly every example of lost media that I've found or helped find hardly anyone cares about, and I'm content with that because that's extremely common in this community. This is not the first time I've had someone tell me "why not contribute instead of complain?" when I have definitely been contributing. I have even gone as far as calling crew members, archivists, and artists that are connected to various examples of lost media. I even wrote an entire handbook to help people search for lost media, which includes examples from my own searches, and it's been pinned to the top of this very forum. At this point sometimes I ask myself if I contribute to much. I've even helped people in searches that I myself am not that passionate about and sometimes were years old and nobody had paid attention to before me. I don't mean to sound pompous or arrogant, but please do not accuse me of not contributing. I wrote my first article when I was 13 years old and I start my second year of college next month.


This I agree with entirely. I myself have looked for media in languages I don't even speak and have even had a hand in restoring them. My main problem was not just searching for these dubs, my problem was that often these dubs are searched by people who either don't speak the language yet the language they do speak is found or don't watch the show. I fully support the search for media in other languages.

I knew this post would stir up some argument, but I really wanted to get this off my chest and I knew I wasn't the only one that felt this way. I don't mean to sound old, but it felt far different back around 2017. Clockman was far more interesting than most of the things I see searched for today. Turn On, Toon Maker's Sailor Moon and Cracks were far more enticing (and also had way better chances of being found).

That's what I mean. I don't have any problem with people looking for commercials or bumpers. Nothing should remain lost just because some people think it's not worth it. I just think it's a shame and a little annoying that there are many other things that are far more socially or historically significant that have had nowhere near the amount of energy and attention the other things get.
