Hi LMF, Acorn here to once again discuss internet media. Cause, why not? It's interesting to me. I'm just wondering what you all miss about the older internet.
Obviously, I truly miss flash games, but luckily I got Flashpoint and can play them at any time! And I miss back when YouTubers could freely curse and drop F-bombs without the fear of getting demonitized.
And is it just me, or are some websites just awfully plain now? I miss back when sites had a charm and design to them that's appealing. Now everything is too bland and plain in my book.
That's all I can think of right now, lemme know what you miss!
Edit 1: Wow! Thanks for all of the amazing replies! I was an early 2000s baby, so hearing about what you all grew up with, including some similarities to what I experienced in my childhood, is something I love hearing about! Keep the replies coming!

god, 2005-2015 youtube was the best era, back when it was being discovered. also myspace and flash games, like the ones on the myscene and ever after high website.

I agree with you 100% about that! 2005-15 YouTube was truly one of the best time periods for the platform and I'm glad I got to experience it firsthand.
I never really used MySpace, though my sister did.
Flash games will always hold a place in my heart, especially the Mario ones I used to play.
I used play app games on Facebook while watching Channel Awesome videos. I know looking back most of those videos were not good, but I guess people were OK with short vids of someone sitting in front of a crappy camera just talking about films they love or hate, nothing too fancy. It just felt like a simpler time.
I feel now, everything on the internet revolves around brands and big celebrities on Twitter. I am sort of sick of weird internet drama, it's exhausting.
I also miss old website design. I hate how lifeless webpages and logos are now. Everything looks like a template.

Yeah, I've noticed a lot of older youtube videos don't have as much quality, but I think that's the charm of it! The old tagline for the site was "Broadcast yourself."
Tell me about it, I'm sick of it. I don't want to sound like a boomer, but I agree that people get famous online nowadays for the dumbest shit. And people act all surprised when they fuck up like a human being would. Lots of internet drama can be just summed up as, "person does thing that another probably would, people get pissed, talk about it for a week, move on."
You're right!! Remember when YouTube had customized backgrounds? That made channels so unique!! That needs to be brought back ASAP!
This might has more to do with the evolution of technology, but how the internet wasn't with you at all times (and thus was more of a pastime rather than something invasive) and how it wasn't ruled by algorithms and instant notifications that would go on to greatly amplify disinformation, sensationalism and polarization and echo chambers. It also didn't have the tech giants that we now know, nor the private info market.
never personally grew up with it but i wished forum sites would be more common again. forums now are either apart of the bigger site, a ghost town, or defunct completely. these sites a lot more fresh and closer among users when making posts compared the more isloated feeling i get from social media apps.

Mainly things like mlp tribute videos and horror content like mlp creepypasta speedpaints or scary speedpaints of peoples mlp ocs. Not everything was SUPER great about that era but since i was and still am a really big horror and mlp fan i kind of missed some of that stuff
Also more of a personal thing, but i kind of miss when memes werent..i dunno burnt out so quickly. Feels like they dont stick around for as long as older memes had. Impact font, grumpy cat, that frog on the tricycle those lasted years but now it feels like a day after a video gains traction everyones annoyed by the next day. Its almost kind of sad

Right right. Basically, how it felt like the wild west and nobody knew what they were gonna find.

Forums are so unique to me. I find it amazing to look back at some forums that haven't been shut down and just scroll through for a bit, seeing what everyone was talking or thinking about. It really did seem closer than what we have now on discord and insta.

OMG the mlp creepypastas and the abundance of mlp ocs!! Yes, I remember! (i actually remade an oc awhile back.)
Me too. memes only seem funny for like five minutes and/or get ran into the ground to the point it's unfunny nowadays.
