This case has had a long time to have proof found for it and nothing has been found. Well over a year of searching and the case is about SpongeBob? One of the shows with the best preserved television history? I really do not think this exists. I honestly think it's time to put this in the "Mandela effect/fandom lie" pile.
You clearly don't know how much spongebob lost media there has been over the years, theres been plenty of ones that had their existence unconfirmed for the longest time and then have had proof of them found

it possible it could be an end of episode bumper credits error or something where they switch to another show but cut the audio short and start the next episode of another show and it happened. Maybe look for channel errors. International could explain the logo sound change because they do got different shows then in the states.

That is a really good theory, I'll start looking for those tomorrow and see where it gets me if anywhere

Plenty? What are your examples of SpongeBob lost media considered existence unconfirmed for "the longest time" that were proven?

Well, we know the Squidward transformation in I Was a Teenage Gary was disproven.

After looking through a decent bit of channel errors I haven't found much yet, I'll continue looking and keep this thread updated

Didn't it always seem strange to you that at the end of the credits of spongebob, a picture of some microbes very similar to plankton was always shown. I've always wondered where this picture came from

If this whole foghorn variant thing even exists I think it would've been an error with like, a spongebob promo that had a foghorn sound at the end of it (Surely there's at least one like that which exists, right?) that cut to the UPP logo early. there's been a few accounts of promo sound (at least music) bleeding into the closing logos during the old split screen credits (but I've only seen a recording of that with Klasky Csupo's logo).
Considering the original show itself just has the normal end credits music playing over the logo aside from special occasions like scaredy pants and texas I don't think a foghorn would be a standalone variant from an episode print/master. There's different cases for the promo theory as well like if it could have been part of a voiceover promo overseas or not

Considering everything else we've looked at I'm starting to think thats what happened, and the foghorn variant had to do with some promo error, but then if that were the case why do so many people remember it? Surely if it was some obscure promo error this many people wouldn't even know of its existence let alone remember it from childhood

There's always the chance that the people who claim to have seen it didn't actually see it. Even if they're not intentionally lying, they could have created a false memory of seeing it sometime in their childhoods after hearing about it.

Personally that’s what i think this case is
Yeah like I’ve said, it instantly sounded familiar to me when I first read about it on the CLG wiki, but I think because a foghorn noise is something I associate with the usual noise of waves and seagulls, I think just assumed I’d heard it, too. I “remember” it being a rather distant noise, whereas the recreations that people some people seem to think are exactly like they remember are very loud. If that was the case though, I can imagine it being pulled for being a jumpscare with the loud noise.

This is one of the stupidest comments I've ever seen on this forum that wasn't a shitpost or troll. I mean, there's been tons of lost media that was "existence unconfirmed" for quite a long time, sometimes around a decade, then either proven to exist or proven to be fake/otherwise not exist, not just with Spongebob media. A Day With Spongebob, some of the Astrology With Squidward shorts, and the eventually debunked Squidward transformation scene from I Was A Teenage Gary all had fairly lengthy searches before anything about them were confirmed, as examples just from the Spongebob universe. And with the first two examples, there's still searches going on today for information and media related to them.
Plus, there's plenty of videos available on the subject from various YouTubers as well, some of which include Spongebob media examples. Some of those videos:

I apologize for my incredibly stupid post. My point is that with the context of SpongeBob being such a well-preserved and documented series on television, it seems really improbable that nobody would be able to find this after over a year of it being a popular topic. Because it's SpongeBob, we already have access to so much of the material to fact-check this. This isn't the type of case where the right person needs to be contacted or the right lead needs to be followed, we pretty much knew everything about it from the beginning and just needed to check. People have checked, to no result, therefore it's my opinion that this is a case of the mandela effect.
