I just got around to watching LSuperSonicQ’s latest SpongeBob lost media video from 2 weeks ago and a lot of people in the comments recall the foghorn version.
You can’t trust random comments unless they have actual proof. These types of situations often boil down to people simply misremembering something/Mandela effect/collective false memory
That’s true, I shouldn’t get my hopes up too much but I felt it was worth pointing out.
As much as I love the optimism of unconfirmed lost media being real, I can think of way more misremembered examples- Squidward transforming, more Astrology with Squidward shorts, Angry Beavers Cuffed Together pilot, Kablam Episode 29, heck even the gory Marvel superheroes from Halloween Horror Nights from recent discussion.
But I will say if this is real, it definitely seems like the kind of thing that would resurface in a foreign dub of the show for how rare the US airing apparently is.

I saw that, and wow, cool to see I was mentioned! One correction, though, I’m pretty sure I didn’t go through ALL those s2 recordings. Sorry if I gave that impression!

I think people might be confusing this with an actual SpongeBob episode that used a foghorn sound effect, seems like something that would cause false memory like this to me

I mentioned this earlier in the topic, but my memory is the foghorn sound effect sounding like the same one used occasionally in the show. This recreation at 1:55 in LSuperSonicQ’s video sounds accurate to what I remember:

It’s interesting how this info has been on the CLG wiki for years, but it’s only been in the last few that this has really come up in discussion.
I definitely remember reading it in around 2015-ish and then looking through I think a history of the logo and being surprised that there was no foghorn version, since it sounded so familiar.. I’d pretty much assumed it was just because it was a rarely used variant.
While I know that I'm a new member, I might possibly know what the "foghorn" variation is: Credits for the episodes "Texas/Walking Small" originally had a country version of the theme song, where the logos features cows mooing (which could've been misinterpreted as foghorns). While the credits music are rare due to most prints either replacing it with the regular credit theme, the song has been archived on YouTube and can be viewable here: youtu.be/NC7-zELdAms
Also during the original airing, the split screen credits played the original music during the logos, so the viewer could've misinterpret the cows mooing as foghorns.

That’s been discussed a fair bit, but I THINK it’s been concluded that it isn’t what people are thinking of (at least in part because there’s never been any mention of it being attached to a specific episode).
Wow this was a long thread to read through, I feel like I've heard the logo myself but I'm not 100% sure. I agree with LSSQ on the fact that it might only be in dubs from other countrys since almost nothing we've seen from the US has gotten us anywhere, I'll try and see if I can find dubbed episodes of spongebob and see what I can find there, if I find anything I'll post an update on this thread
Edit 1: Haven't been able to find any dubs yet, been looking through old 2002 recordings of Nick in the meantime, as I said before I'll update if I find anything
Edit 2: So far nothing, I haven't been able to find any dubs so thats what I'm hung up on at the moment. I think if I can find some dubs I'll at least get something
Edit 3: Man why are dubs so fucking hard to find (pardon my language) starting to feel like the dubs themselves are the lost media, maybe I just don't know where to look though, if you guys have ideas on where to look just reply to this, I wanna get some kinda closure for this
