i made an account just to add this info that i discovered! a tweet from @asuzarei was added to the post above mine. this account belongs to asuza rei, an anime figure sculptor? for lack of a better term. according to information on myfigurecollection.net, they were involved in the creation of the rion figure as well as the creation of the fujimiya kanna (baditz maru) figure and the suzuhara minimo (cinnamoroll) figure. myfigurecollection.net also states that these figures were given a limited release in 2009 and 2010. and that they appeared at the summer 2009 and summer 2010 wonderfest. this information could be incorrect, however.
asuza rei themselves has also posted several times about magical girl rion, particularly the figures they worked on. the first tweet of theirs that i was able to find on the subject was from october 22, 2020.
here is it translated by google, if anyone would like to provide more accurate translations to any of these tweets please go ahead. "I was asked, "What is the girl with this Sanrio character I saw online?" These children are Sanrio official characters called "Magical Rion-chan", who was born in 2006 by Sanrio Wave as "Sanrio character and magical girl". The design is Azusa Zero (^^ b)"
the next tweet i found was from december 6, 2020.
"I'm sorry I was late. Rion-chan's figures were created for exhibitions such as anime events, and I think they were not sold. The image is a picture of an anime event held in China. Various goods are shown, but I don't know if they were on sale (^^;"
finally, october 12, 2021
"A document came out related to Sanrio's magical girl Rion-chan (^^ b) This is the magazine that was featured on the cover and notice of the start of the next issue when it was serialized in a Chinese manga magazine for girls. Besides Rion-chan, I have friends who transform with Badtz-Maru and Cinnamoroll." interestingly, we can see two new characters here. i wonder if they are villains?
someone in the comments of the rion figure on myfigurecollection claims to have gotten their hands on a copy of one of the manga and wants to translate it. i wonder if that translation or any other translations or scans of the manga will ever come out? sorry if this post is really long and/or hard to understand
I found a bunch of stuff that could be helpful to the finding of this show. These are all from Tumblr (I searched up Sanriowave) Thanks to the person who found them. It’s my first time using the site, so please tell me if the images appear
I couldn’t find a way to use the images, so I’ll put the Tumblr search results, some useful stuff were: a website, one page from the manga, and 2 character bios www.tumblr.com/tagged/sanriowave?sort=top

Hello @puppybunny67 , well I have found info from tumblr too but I am curious what website name of the picture showing a website of rion-chan. But I might try to take a look to sanriowave website for rion-chan media.
No way!!! I just found out something big! Apparently, Magical Girl Rion Chan was found in another event!! It was posted by a Chinese blogger, here, have the pictures! I think I found out how to use them, let me know if they work!!
I’ve been following this thread with interest for a long while now and hope we can find out more about this. I was doing some web searches for the supposed Chinese title “魔法少女莉欧" and found this: www.cicfcn.com/productitem/17501 What’s interesting to me is that the image on this webpage of the manga is way higher quality than the one on tumblr. It’s also interesting that although the page is in Chinese and it seems almost all the events were in China, this page of the manga is in Japanese. It’s a great quality scan, I can actually see all the kanji, and thus I’ll try my best to translate this page. Unfortunately, I am only a novice Japanese translator (still learning) and I don’t know any Chinese at all. I’ll still do my best to help with this search effort.

Just found what appears to be some sort of wikipedia like page about Magical Rion-chan: baike.baidu.com/item/%E9%AD%94%E6%B3%95%E5%B0%91%E5%A5%B3%E8%8E%89%E6%AC%A7/10837701 The first thing that sticks out to me is that it mentions the Manga Bar, second is a section that I think is saying the artists of the manga were: “TANAH & Sufersparadise.” Please correct me if I’m misunderstanding it. After searching those names I found what seems to be a “yahoo answers” like page: zhidao.baidu.com/question/2055977497324249307.html A blog post about the figures: ruriruri.moe-nifty.com/gareki/2008/09/post-82f3.html I could be wrong, but I think the blogger is saying that this is the sculptor’s website: www2u.biglobe.ne.jp/~azusarei/ Found this Chinese forum thread with some higher quality scans of the magazine cover Rion and the other characters were on: tieba.baidu.com/p/813634417?red_tag=0478146409 It’s odd to me that this magazine seems to be in Chinese, yet the only page we can find of the manga online is in Japanese. (Speaking of which I will translate that manga page soon.) Now if only we could find a copy of this magazine, I’m sure there would be more info. and images in there. Looks like the magazine is called “漫画BAR” 漫画bar吧 or “Manga Bar”/“Comic Bar”.

Wow, thanks so much!!! I’ll try to do whatever I can to translate. I’m a beginner at Chinese and Japanese, but I’ll try whatever source I can
