What is one thing you hate about lost media hunting?

I feel that. This kind of thing is my bread and butter, so when I find out some shot-on-video film form the 70s-90s was discovered again I lost my mind over it. I remember that happening with two horror movies from the late 80s that were more or less for 20 or so years until Camp Motion Pictures distributed them as part of a five or six movie collection back in 2011. They weren't very good, but knowing they have very little chance of becoming lost again warms my heart.

I'd say that could be Metal Noir, but I'm not even sure the full ins and outs about how that went production wise.

When the one person you'd think would have it doesn't.

4. When foreign films have multiple different names and translations.

Looking for unavailable Italian films means twice the search engine scouring for both titles. But then some, like I Dolci Inganni are, for whatever reason, most popularly remembered by yet another name. (In this case, Les Adolescentes now with its own new English-translated title, "The Adolescents." Luckily this particular film is not lost, but if it were, that means FOUR times you gotta go through the search engine results.) Another good example of what I'm talking about is L'uomo dei cinque palloni ("The Man With the Balloons") also known as Break Up. But this film was originally part of a collection (known as an "omnibus film") called Oggi, domani, dopodomani, known to the US as both The Man Who Lost His Memory and Kiss the Other Sheik. I eventually found a copy of this film, but boy oh boy you can imagine the headache.

5. When something is lost or buried that has absolutely no reason to be.

Why isn't I Dolci Inganni available on Bluray or DVD in the US? Why do I have to buy an expensive import from the European version of Amazon as well as a whole new region free Bluray player just to watch it legally? Even I barely want to tolerate that hassle, and it's my new all-time favorite movie. I want to show it to people, recommend they get a copy or gift them one myself...but it's essentially impossible to do that legally in America. It's like the rights-holders want these movies to fade into obscurity. I know for a fact that I care more about some of these films than the people that own the rights to them, and that's just really sad.

And that's to say nothing of the movies which have never been given English subtitles and the (foreign, of course) home media versions don't include them either. Or the stuff that's never been released on DVD at all, which easily could be. (Just give us a made-to-order DVD-R in a paper sleeve or paid download on a website! God almighty, it's 20-fucking-21!) Most outrageously are the various Italian soundtracks which have only ever been released to the Asian market. Wanna get those? Good luck tracking down an out of print Japanese CD from 30 years ago. Or finding a way to rip music files from Asian region only, impregnable websites. This is why piracy was invented...but unfortunately, with obscure stuff like this, even those avenues often turn up empty. 

when certain tv series are lost but not Technically in the sense that they have missing episodes online/no rips/rips but they're vhs quality with no legal release, but the production companies have them buried in a back catalogue with no intention to legally release them and no desire to respond to your requests to Have them legally released unless you're a media distributor (and likewise distribution companies/streaming platforms having no desire to respond to Those requests to legally release said series)- even worse case scenario being these distributors releasing the same handful of shows like clockwork while probably half of their catalogue is lost media (cough WILDBRAIN) 

i swear to god there are so many older non-us animated series that are lost media that i've just. casually found sitting in a distributors back catalogue gathering dust and i Don't know why this is such a major problem 

I hate when someone post here the last link of some lostmedia from youtube or something like that before saving.
The channel get flooded and is shot down before anyone saving it.
