I decided to make another spin on the nostalgia32x thread from a while back about ways people claimed to have lost media. Here however, we're talking about how people claimed to have lost media in more clever ways. I thought of making this thread for a while, especially since it COULD theoretically help us out on being able to find out that the "lost media" is fake. Ok, it probably won't help that much because some of these are probably way smarter than others, but still.
Dreams are boundless, imaginations are infinite, space is a multi-directional spiral & Akazukin ChaCha is my favorite anime

I've always thought this troll was one typo away from tricking some big YouTuber and causing a shitstorm. I don't think they would've ever fooled anybody here unless they dropped the Saki angle entirely.

I'm kinda wondering if he would be able to fool more people if he did it differently; keep the realistic ways the screenshots were rendered, but have it be some weird late 80s Finnish cartoon, complete with 100% accurate Finnish & a low budget Filmation look to it.
And then someone who actually knows about 80s Finnish TV comes by & is like, "No, this is fake. It looks too Japanese" due to the artstyle looking like Pokonyan! instead of looking more like Kössi Kenguru, an ACTUAL classic Finnish cartoon.

They probably would've gotten away with that simply because it's not an existing search. The thread would definitely reach Saki levels of arguing in circles about whether it was real. I imagine it would end up becoming one of those threads that's periodically revived every few months and makes no progress.
I think if one was trying to come up with a lost media hoax that was long lasting, they'd have to target something that the LMW community would be likely to fixate on - that probably limits it to English-language or Japanese. If I was doing it, I'd try to make something that toes the line of what could reasonably exist hard enough to invite intense speculation - something like the confusions around Pink Morning Cartoon, but done maliciously.
Ultimately, I don't think it's possible to make a lost media hoax that would last more than like a week without putting in so much effort that you might as well go the extra mile and just make a real media without all the nonsense.

On some uploads of Noah Knows Best on Youtube I saw comments from one guy made six years ago saying he had all the episodes and saw others asking him for them, i'm pretty sure he was bullshitting.

Oh, definitely. It's awful but I love very obviously bullshitting like this, saying I think my friend's brother's coworker's cousin's got whatever-the-heck on an old hard drive in storage, just nonsense. It amuses me.
Speaking of Saki Sanobashi, I think the OP of that deserves to get some sort of master troll award. He could've plopped those posts onto Creepypasta wiki and they'd fit right in ROTFL
Lying about having lost media, huh... I think it's quite likely the Saki Sanobashi story was a complete lie as well, the reddit thread was also likely lying about being the 4chan OP too.
I'm really struggling to think of high profile cases where a faked lead was major to a search and its lore. A Day with SpongeBob was basically nothing but that but idk if anything particularly smart was going on...
