True that, especially in Mario Kart. Like, I want more WarioWare characters and more obscure Mario characters in my Mario Kart games, not Pink Rose Gold Bunny Suit Baby Peach!!

I have another two. All of the Burger King commercials that have the whopper song in them, like seriously, I hate that song and every commercial that plays it, and all of the Fast and Furious films. Seriously, isn't there enough of them the way it is? Like wasn't the point of them supposed to be about cars and racing, do they even focus on cars and racing anymore?
I like the DaftPunk version

Oh god, yeah, the Swan Princess sequels with that janky CGI...no idea that they tried to sell out to China on top of that, just like dang Norm of the North (of all things) did. Norm of the North at least got its last sequel cancelled.
I think that the movies are now owned by some religious entertainment company too? Which which makes me wonder at least....
Who is watching these Swan Princess movies anyway??? I don't think I've heard any modern kids who express fondness for Swan Princess, not have I seen much in the way of nostalgia throwback videos for the series (beyond the first of course). I've seen plenty of Gen Z/Mil fondness for the direct to video Barbie movies or the Tinkerbell movies or even the Bratz movies (to an extent), but Swan Princess? Nope.
I'm going to assume that for the most part, only people who see these as review fodder & diehard Swan Princess fans would know about them, with the movies just sitting on store shelves, almost completely unheard of amongst kids even before the CGI era. I mean, for Pete's sake, there are a lot of Alpha And Omega fans who also like the sequels & yet seemingly NONE for the Swan Princess sequels. Heck, it's possible that most of the sequels weren't advertised all too well... if at all.
Oh good point with the mention of the Alpha and Omega sequels! Probably a similar dynamic at play. Fans gonna fan, stans gonna stan, all that jazz.
In the case of AaO, I imagine it amassed a much younger fanbase who then went on to either join other adjacent or bigger fandoms. For all its flaws, maybe they did actually like the AaO characters? On top of becaming popular review fodder in a "so bad it's fascinating" way, amassing a "tertiary fanbase" later. Or both. I remember snorting at the dinosaur sequel in particular.
It's also possible parents just put on name brand, easily digestible movies for kiddos on streaming or DVD, and they rewatch them over and over, and again, and actually form some type of attachment to the characters. You find plenty of grown people today who admit that they liked "mediocre products" as a kid...I would say Hotel Transylvania in that case, which I like but DOES have major flaws. For whatever reason, they get attached, and can't quite hate on them in that respect. The kids who would have watched Hotel Transylvania when they were 10 are now 19-21 today, and it "was their childhood."
Reminds me of the Open Season sequels as well. I think those at least stopped, though I guess we got a TV series at some point. NO THANK YOU.
I know I just wrote a mega sized post up ahead, but forgot to mention: Hotel Transylvania. Yes, I know it does gangbusters at the box office IE it gives several animation industry people consistent work, and keeps getting further projects for Tartakovsky. But I just don't feel that he is a particularly good movie director, his TV series feel more interesting and passionate and well-structured and paced and organic. I don't hate the first HT, but it just felt like it played it super safe. Second was ehhhhh, and what I've seen of the third hasn't hooked me either. But they keep pushing and pushing out more sequels to the point that even multiple voice actors NOPED out once they hit the 4th. That's hopefully when Sony too NOPE OUTS. But I doubt it.
Ah, I see, was just curious if you didn't like the major change in direction in his channel that occurred 2022-23ish. I'm kinda mixed on it, because while I know he's at least doing stuff that he personally CARES about and he thus experiences less burnout now, part of me misses the older videos on stuff like random Gamecube games or old school Newgrounds videos/games or educational games or random overseas consoles. The newer videos don't really have that same energy or feel for me, and it's hard to say why. Not to mention the "I reviewed every ____ of _____" just isn't much my style, as that does feel like it's just following current trends. I currently don't care enough to watch multiple 1 1/2+ hour videos on Power Rangers.
And oh yeah, of course, everyone has different tastes in what they like on Youtube and that's okay too. I've been watching Conner for like 6+ years now, and even then, it's been sort of "on and off" with him for me.
I didn't see your reply, sorry. I think I used to watch him when I was younger? Like, if there was no other videos of something I wanted to watch and he was the only one that didn't seem annoying.
No problem. I went through a period where his videos were comfort food to me, especially in stressed times in life. And he just had a nice happy feeling in his videos, and of course, I like teh gemu (especially teh bootlegz games, they iz LOL!) too and such, so yeah. Easy, succinct, and funny watches IMO.
Like I said, I'm pretty mixed on how I feel about his "new direction" videos. I think I found his older videos more spontaneous/energetic/lively and his new content feels "more professional," strictly coordinated, strictly edited, and strictly scripted, which he DID say that's how it would be in the future...but dang it, it like it feels like SO MANY other Youtubers are just doing that same style now too. Trend chasing???
I just don't know if I like that style as much as a silly 15 minute video on a random Japanese Mario telephone game system.

The first movie did really well on home video and the crazy part is the guy who made that film was involved with all of the sequels.
Oh yeah, I forget how many movies technically became "modest hits" once the VHS came out. Ferngully and Once Upon a Forest were examples, with both movies basically becoming "actually" successful on video. We did get one atrocious sequel for Ferngully and (thankfully) none for Once Upon a Forest.
Had no idea that the original creator was still involved! I have to wonder WHY he wanted to keep pushing sequels out. Egomaniac or just consoomer driven? A religious call to duty to entertain with religious morals?
I also really don't like sequels that are made like decades after the original, like those made for TV movies or streaming that may or may not involve any of the original people. My family tried to watch A Christmas Story 2 and it was just an unpleasant movie, and not in that fun way the original was (IMO).

I personally HATE the original Christmas Story with a passion(it was one of many bad movies i was forced to watch in high school, Patch Adams, Friday Night Lights and Rudy were other ones, the latter I was forced to sit through more then once unfortunately)so to me the sequel would probably be an improvement LOL
I actually liked Once Upon a Forest(though Nostalgia Critic made some good points about it's flaws)and the sequel to Ferngully was OK IMO
With the sequels I have to wonder if part of it is a grudge against Disney for scheduling A Goofy Movie right up against The Swan Princess and the creator was determined to beat Disney at their own game of DTV sequels.

This would be absolutely hilarious if turned out to be true. Especially since, if I remember correctly, the Swan Princess movies got into the "DTV sequels" FIRST and years before Disney hopped full speed on THAT train (at least at max speed, as in the mid 00s, and only halted once Lasseter assumed power at Disney). EDIT: Looked up some info on the director, and he was apparently FIRED from Disney before he was supposed to help direct Oliver and Company. Might explain a few things....
