Funnily enough back in the 90s and 2000s it actually used to be cool to make fun of Reeves acting and it was common for TV shows to use him as a punchline, it's only since the late 2000s that he saw something of a reappraisal of his acting career and now people like him quite a bit. I think he's a fine actor but not one of the best, I like the John Wick movies but I feel like they could've been made with just about any actor in the lead role without much changing. I just wish people talked more about Reeves more underappreciated movies like Street Kings.
I don't care for musicals in general(HATE Sound of Music with a passion) with very few exceptions(Pitch Perfect and High School Musical series being one of them)
I like the Spongebob movie but I had no clue who the hell David Hasselhoff was at the time(as i'd never seen Baywatch, it's cultural popularity had come and gone by the time i'd started watching syndication)so I was more perplexed then anything by his cameo(if anything I found his cameo in Kickin it Old Skool funnier). There was originally a subplot in the movie where Sandy is on the run from government agents, but it got cut because Hillenberg and others thought it felt too out of place and distracting.
In general, I'm just not a "musical" person either, despite the best efforts of my parent to make me into the talent of a Carnegie hall musician with 10+ years of formal music lessons <_< This goes to anything related to musicals-those animatics on Youtube, cover songs, acapella, stage plays, random songs stuffed into indie animations, reenactments of songs, etc. Don't like any of em. I currently can't even think of one single musical off the top of my head I have watched more than once, except for Frozen (rewatched with relatives) and maybe some random clips of High School Musical (which I actually do have a soft spot for, similar to you enjoying it).
Indeed, I knew who David Hasselhoff was (I'm in my 30s), I just didn't get what was so funny about that one super lonngggggg joke that everyone else found absolutely hysterical. I was also perplexed by the whole scene-I guess a LOT of people find it super touching/emotional and I just...didn't? I definitely didn't cry at it the way every Youtuber seems to have, haha (I did see the movie at any older age, which may have affected things too). And thanks for the info about Sandy-I didn't know that! Like I said, I will likely give the movie a full rewatch at some point and see if I can appreciate it more than I did the last time I watched it.
