Making the switch from Twitter to Blue sky is the best decision I made in my life
Sometimes life is like this dark tunnel. You can't always see the light at the end of the tunnel, but if you just keep moving... you will come to a better place.
Obeying authoritarian regimes makes you complicit in them.
I have successfully avoided a couple of subreddits for over two weeks now. I am slowly de-reddit my life and I'm already starting to feel more calm. It's absolutely bonkers how much social media has influenced my mental health.
i stay off of social media mostly because i dont want to traumatize myself again (long story)
Yeah I am convinced that with all the INSANE "cultural mess" going on (my social media contains people from basically EVERY "camp"), I picked a REALLY good time to disconnect. I do still have a bad habit of doomscrolling on Reddit so I have to be careful there though (again, maybe 1% of the US population is on it, Reddit is NOT real life). I don't comment anymore, which at least helps out some with that. Also part of this was spurred on with some friend drama which is now thankfully resolved, but I still don't feel the need to log back in anyway. It's simply been too healthy and nourishing for my mental health. Good for you, and you do you! It's supposed to spark joy and if it isn't, cut it out and don't apologize. People can DM you if they need you (or wish to catch up), is what I usually say.

Ooof yeah, that's a TOUGH one, because Reddit contains plenty of consistently interesting content and many interesting people, but MY GOD is it a total killjoy of a website. Like everything is doom and gloom 24/7 and EVERYONE just gathers around the misery campfire 365 days year to sing "the doom song." It's ridiculous, and is something awful for overall mental health IMO. And yeah, that DOES feed into the mind and soul after a while.
At least with forums, we are getting back to a slower pace, a higher rate of focus and the taste of patience...
Going back further and we'll send each other handwritten letters in envelopes... and see them published in magazines through subscriptions!
Hey, I am actually considering sending physical Christmas cards for the first time in...I don't even remember. I think a lot of people would appreciate some type of handwritten card, there's a certain art "finesse" to it.
And heck, even with handwritten letters, e-mail and DMs are nice and convenient, but it sure was nice to get a handwritten letter back in the day with the author's own style and flourish! Even the Amelia's Notebook series touches on this-social media is now present to some extent, but Amelia says that she still craves "old fashioned" letters. At the very least, they are a great item to be able to preserve much better than electric DMs and look back on fondly in the future.
It's interesting because maybe a decade ago, I wouldn't have seen too much value in handwritten letters anymore, but now they are almost like a lost art.
