The advertisements I've been getting lately on YouTube are just so uninteresting. They can be invasive at times too. I've been getting ads for stuff I don't care about like TUMS, Opera GX or Disney+ & I'm just like "PLEASE STOP WITH THOSE ADS IN PARTICULAR!!! ARE THEY DOING THIS AGAINST MY WILL ON PURPOSE!?".
Advertisements on TVTropes have also been a problem, with some not disappearing until I refresh the page I'm on because the x has no collision detection apparently, which is REAL annoying.
That's why I always use Ublock Origin and Adblock for Youtube so I don't have to sit through those ads. I've been using Adblock on Youtube for well over a decade now as I remember how ads used to outright break Youtube videos constantly. Back when I had limited bandwidth it was a real pain to watch anything on there as a result. Once I got Adblock the difference was like night and day, once you go block you'll never go back!

For me, as annoying as they are, I do have some patience in me, so I'll wait until I'm able to skip.

It's like that one scene on Bojack Horseman where he's all "i'm not gonna hit the skip button now, i'm invested!".

I'm currently on the board of directors of a local convention and I created and run their website. I had the opportunity to run their social media accounts that I also created, but decided to pass that responsibility to another friend who likes to stream.
Thank goodness! Furry social media, especially on X, is so chaotic to me.

Ads used to constantly break the free version of Crunchyroll (circa 2013-14) too. I'd have to refresh the page 4 times to finish a single episode of anything. Not sure if it was the site, my computer, or my internet, or all of the above. Don't recall the same thing with free Hulu (2012?), weirdly enough. Especially since modern Hulu has some of the worst and most annoying and nonstop ads to date IMO.

Don't get me started on Hulu, fortunately Adblock Ultimate seems to block ads on there OK as well as on Max and Prime.

Do you know of any add blocks that still work on YouTube?

Another aspect of modern social media-if it's an anniversary of something, feeling the "need" to post some type of tribute, or people get stupid about it. There are way too many "anniversaries" of things in my life and in the world to honestly feel feasible. Heck, when I was working in a school, I tried to do a "foreign holiday every day" tribute after lunch, not even anything fancy, just a short collection of photos/video/website blurb and I STILL got burned out so much that I stopped altogether after like 2ish months (except for the biggest holidays).
I'm still on the social media philosophy of, "If it's important, DM or call/text me. Otherwise, I will get to acknowledging it when I feel like checking it." Speaking of which, still need to figure out if Instagram has a "DM notification" only system.
Honestly I have moments where I question if I should just abandon all of my accounts on various websites & just never be seen again, becoming nothing more than just some udder rando online & still be some rando in real life. I know that would mean that various subjects that would otherwise not be talked about around here(like Atari & Commodore games), but still. I think I might need to get back to just focusing on my YouTube channel for a little while because at least over there I was happy with what I was doing & was lucky to get 50 viewers on a video.
But not even going back to my channel helps all that much because I'm a procrastinating craphead who can barely keep up with schedules I impose onto myself & now the wireless AtGames Genesis controller I have is out of actual power, with no screwdriver in sight for me to use to change the batteries as a consequence for me being a lazy little bean that has no audience. What luck. Now that's one thing I make videos of out of my reach.

What's also difficult for me is seeing official accounts like political figures, gaming companies and more use social media like Twitter still to announce things. Even though I have no interest in using Twitter I still have to "use" it to follow updates and news.

Some people have said that LinkedIn has become a some sort of corporate Facebook with all the self-aggrandizing and very artificial posts such:
"Last week was a terrible life experience. My mother died after a long battle with cancer. Here are 5 things that I learned about marketing during her funeral!"
Or
"This year I'm skipping all my vacation time so I can work overtime and get that promotion. I'll even work in my car making sales calls in the evening. Resting is for the weak-minded!#hardwork #sales #novacation"
I finally closed it last month because it was really not doing anything for me and I was tired of reading all posts like these on my profile.

I might be jumping the gun here, but I don't see myself being super active here for a while if it isn't to share music or whatever lost media oriented news I get from equarep and a few others.
I'm currently in the throws of one of my longest pain flare-ups in a few months (almost a week straight) and it's exhausting just being awake some days since I'm either on my couch or in bed since standing for too long feels like I'm being crushed. Even now, in the comfort of my office, my back hurts like total hell and I don't have anything strong enough to offset it. I'm hoping that throwing myself into art again will give me some of my mojo back since I can only spend so much of my day moderating the subreddits I manage (and how sometimes it's honestly just a bunch of thankless bullshit work from the community) or burning through my watchlist before it feels like I'm just wasting my time. My health issues (along with other personal affairs) have also more or less benched me from securing more work at venues in my local art scene, which means I'm not only isolating myself from old friends and mutuals, but missing out on opportunities to network that could also help me pay the bills. Shit sucks, but what can you do.
I also know that I'm probably older than most of the community here at this point, so I feel like there's a sort of divide in that regard as to what I can stay invested in without sounding like a jaded old man about it. I've been trying to get back into using Instagram and Tiktok more in the hopes to network more, but I don't know how much longer I'll be able to ride that hype train before I go back to using it scarcely if it's not to support my friends and the scenes I'm active in. I don't know how some people do it with being ridiculously prolific and known on multiple platforms, but damn, that a kind of fear I don't think I want to experience that intimately.
