Is that why New Line decided to do those dumb reboots of Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street that both bombed? At the very least if they wanted to use two of their most famous horror franchises to earn them back a little of the money they lost they at least could've done more sequels instead of reboots. I mean making the follow up to Freddy Vs. Jason being two reboots with new actors playing the horror icons was just box office poison waiting to happen, because I know as a fan to both franchises I only want to see the real actors playing the characters or not at all, lol.
Whoops, off topic!
While I'm thinking about it, that Jason X movie was horrible. That right there was trying to make a reboot and a sequel at the same time, and it's a very good example of how not to do one.
I actually enjoyed those reboots personally, I liked Haley's take on Freddy and thought the new take on Jason was interesting. But I wouldn't be surprised if that was part of the motivation. There was a screenplay called Freddy Vs Jason Vs Ash(which was later made into a comic book) that was planned but ultimately scrapped and honestly after seeing the comic i'm kinda glad it didn't happen as it would've killed off Will and Lori and I didn't really want to see that and some of the stuff that happens in the comic is just plain dumb.
Very strongly disagree on Jason X, I thought that movie was awesome and it's easily my favorite film in the franchise(i'm with Jim Sterling on that one)for me it's a prime example of how to do a sequel right, so much to love about that movie.
Also, I had a dream where a copy of B.O.O.: Bureau of Otherworldly Operations got found, but it was a Hungarian dub, which confused me, as the movie likely never got far enough to be dubbed into other languages.
I then made my way to dreamworks, and leaked most of their cancelled movies online while an employee stood there, telling me to stop, because he “didn’t want these movies online”, so I “fixed” the problem by putting them up for purchase on eBay, and then he snatched the copies from me, telling me to get my ass out of there.

Frickn Mission Impossible hacking into the mainframe 🤣
I know I'm now really off-topic with The Golden Compass and so I'll shut up after this LOL:
The thing about the His Dark Materials series is that the anti-religious themes are baked very heavily into the framework of the books and give them a distinct flavor (besides the beautiful, intricate writing style). If you've read the 3rd book, you know exactly what I'm talking about. The problem is that New Line ended up creating bland and forgettable and "it was okay, I guess" when they tried to water down those themes for a more conservative family audience. So TGC just got swept up in the wave of "companies searching for their own Harry Potter money generator" (think: Eragon, A Series of Unfortunate Events) And in the process, they also alienated a lot of young adult book fans, who appreciated the deep themes of the original. So NO ONE ended up really liking it AFAIK.
Speaking of cancelled movies and back on topic, I would love to hear if anything came of the attempt at a second A Series of Unfortunate Events movie. I know that the original director was still interested for years in a proper sequel before Netflix scooped up the rights.

No it’s fine, alternate cuts can be discussed here too, I changed the title of this thread.
As for the series of unfortunate events sequel, I’m guessing maybe a script draft or 3 may exist, but I doubt anything got filmed.

I mean, we gotta leak all the cancelled movies somehow!
I do actually remember I also tried to leak an early cut of Megamind online, featuring a bunch of fully animated deleted/extended/alternate scenes/shots, which was successful, as well as some additional deleted scenes from the bad guys (a second alternate opening where Wolf and snake talk about their last meal on earth, and an extended version of marmalade revealing his plan, and Wolf telling him he could have just hired a good accountant, and yes, these deleted scenes are real, as they were mentioned in the directors commentary).

Also, update on me looking through archives versions of John Pomeroy’s website through the wayback machine: I unfortunately never found any contact info. I guess it might be time to move onto a new lead (this is for the land before time deleted scenes if anyone here wonders, one of my favorite lost media subjects).
Would anyone happen to know a website where I can find contact info and resumes without needing to have an account? I know the wayback machine exists, but a lot of people who animated on this film don’t seem to have their own website.

Yeah, that Freddy Vs. Jason Vs. Ash comic does sound stupid! I read a plot outline that just sounds inanely dumb, like a lot of the inter company comic book crossovers of the past twenty years, lol. Like that TMNT and Ghostbusters comic book crossover where the four TMNT are 'reincarnated' brothers from ancient Japan and Splinter is the reincarnation of their feudal Japan father, lmao!
Touching back on The Golden Compass, honestly it was probably a bad idea to attempt to adapt that series of novels for a mainstream movie audience in the first place. It'd have served better as a series of indie films, in my opinion.

I don't think it was a bad idea necessarily, the problem was the studio got cold feet and didn't let the filmmakers go far enough, it's like they wanted to appeal to the anti-religion crowd but also not alienate the religious crowd too much by toning down certain parts of the book, they should've just gone for the anti-religious crowd full throttle and not stupidly sold off the foreign rights to the film.

Also, according to a user on the lost media wiki by the name of YoshiKiller *insert random numbers here*, a workprint of the cancelled dreamworks film “Me and My Shadow” is circulating in private circled, but has yet to be shared publicly.
Not sure how true the claims are, but I hope it’s true.

Also, I managed to find the email to animator Jean morels (I assume to be) wife, Louis morel. Jean animated on both the land before time, and I believe he’s the one who uploaded the phone recording of the deleted skunk pie scene in rock-a-doodle, so yeah.
I’ll share it on the land before time deleted scenes thread.

Then it's obvious that the studio knew that they would upset the religious crowd and thus lose theater seats of those who weren't going to see the film in the first place. Maybe they should have gone with a different project idea instead, appeal to all crowds and then make significant bank on the product. But I don't think entertainment studios want new ideas, they'd just rather take someone else's from a book or an older movie and just revamp it to reboot, reuse and recycle. It's like, for example, do we really need a new Superman reboot every ten years or a new Spider-Man reboot every ten years, rehashing origin stories that audiences already know? Or a new reboot of Star Trek every five years? I think it's time for more new original ideas and less remaking of the old ones. And, it's also time to get more inclusive new ideas that find common ground with all audiences, not just one sect or another. Drop the big push on politics too, I think. Make entertainment a version of escapism again, not just a reflection of what we have to see on a daily basis.

I don't think they should've done with a different project, the amount of people that would actually refuse to see a film like that over these are a vocal minority at best, religion has been steadily losing popularity for decades now.
I personally don't mind all of those reboots, and let's be honest a lot of so-called "original IP" are borrowing plenty of ideas from established properties, there's very little "original" stories left to tell.
There's no such thing as non-political media, so saying to "drop the push on politics" is pure fantasy and highly unrealistic. It's easy for straight white dudes whose very existence isn't being debated amongst certain individuals to call for "escapism" in films, those people don't get to "escape" from reality so personally i'm glad that films aren't afraid to tackle real world issues, for me it comes off as naive when certain films like "The Help" and "Green Book" try to downplay how bad racism actually was(and spread outright lies in the case of the latter).
Frankly I can't but roll my eyes every single time I see people bitching about remakes and reboots, i'm genuinely curious to see what the new take on Superman is going to be like even if I am going to miss the DCEU.
I get red flags whenever I see someone complaining about a film like the Wrinkle in Time film and saying "oh do more original stuff" cause from my experience a lot of people on social media saying that shit ACTUALLY mean "don't do movies with black people in them as main characters", I remember when Force Awakens came out and people started bitching about Finn in a profoundly racist manner and when people didn't buy it the trolls started instead started trying to disguise their bigotry/misogyny and nonsense behind more general criticisms("I.E. "hurr durr Rey's a Mary-Sue!")and now it's difficult to tell the general fandom from the bad-faith trolls. So i'm not saying everyone who dislikes those films is a bad-faith troll, but when you've seen as many as I have it sure is hard to tell the difference between good and bad-faith criticisms.
