………oh god, I forgot to mention I had a dream where I did that. My bad! 😅
Ok.
If it’s any help though, you could probably contact the people who worked on the movie and see if they might give you a cut of the film that has those deleted scenes. Not even just necessarily a workprint, just any form of alternate cut.
Tbh, I think we still could’ve gotten gigantic even with all the movies we got instead.
That leaves one question though: how far did gigantic go into production before getting cancelled? If I personally had to guess, it’s probably a popeye situation where it only exists as a feature-length animatic, with no animation work done at all.
I was listening to the Jim Hill podcast recently. Jim Hill is someone who is very close to people who work in Disney, so pretty reliable. According to him there were songs completed, story beats, and even characters. There was one massive problem that kept it from releasing. The story was going to be about people and giants signing a treaty years ago, giants get to stay in the sky and people on Earth. The two must never cross paths. Jack climbing the beanstalk breaks the treaty and the villains, the thunder giants go down to earth. And then...
Well that's it, they couldn't just figure out what happened after that. Having what was essentially kid friendly War of the Worlds was deemed to be pretty dark for a kids movie, but they couldn't really start from scratch either.
Some of the songs ended up in Frozen 2, mainly "Into the Unknown", which explains why both of the official covers were done by male rock artists.
That is super interesting! So some of the songs for Gigantic were reworked into Frozen 2? Do you have a link or recall the name of this Jim Hill podcast?
Did some searching and found an interesting blog post linked in a tvtropes thread that mentions multiple cancelled disney movies and the theoretical timeline they would have released in
First is the 2010s Winnie the Pooh reboot
Then Wreck it Ralph, which the blogger interestingly describes as having a similar transformation American Dog had... minus the plot problems. Ouch.
After that is King of the Elves which seems to have had a lot of developmental hell with constant cancellations and retries.
After that is a mystery John Musker and Ron Clements movie. The tvtropes commenter guesses it's either Mort or Moana.
Then Cosmic 3000.
Finally, after all that would have been Gigantic.
What we got instead? Well Wreck it Ralph is the only project here to remain unscathed. After that was the surprise hit Frozen. Then the oft-forgotten, but popular Big Hero 6. Then Zootopia, Moana, Ralph 2, Frozen 2.
If I had to choose, I would of rather had any of these movies over Ralph 2 and Frozen 2 and any of the movies that released afterwards. I am unsure if I prefer this alternative timeline over the one we gotten. The ideas here are interesting, but there's also some weak links, like I am not sure how good Cosmic 3000 (a movie about alien race car drivers) and King of the Elves (mostly due to it's development hell) could have been.
I always wondered what happened with King of the Elves. I believe it was the Disney Wiki that used to have a lot of concept art available for this movie. It's a shame it never saw the light of day.
I am guessing that Cosmic 3000 was the rumored "teen space race film" that used to be listed on the Disney Wiki.

Here you go! I have a bit more questions about it's legitimacy now then when I wrote this comment due to private research sessions about other disney films, but it's still an interesting story that could be at least 10 - 30% truthful.
EDIT: Forgot there was a part 1 to this, so here ya go as well

I might of found an earlier version of the film's script. No draft date though Script listing

…..Di- did I just accidentally start a new search?

I just made an alt thread so discussion can move there for the search. The thread
I.. I mean, I’m not complaining. It’s a lost film media search, and it’s somewhat more recent too, and for a well beloved film, so I’m sure it might garner some attention. Hopefully the scenes featured in the reels (including minor changes and stuff) can actually be found in their entirety so we can make an extended cut.
Do you guys think that this is proof of a lost cut for Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken? link
……No. the link’s down, so probably not. We should probably focus on Megamind for now before we start searches for deleted scenes of other recent animated films.

Ok, also I tried looking for an email for the writers of Megamind. But unfortunately, I could not find one.

Maybe try the films editor instead? They’re more likely to have the actual scenes, maybe provide insight on why they were cut, reshot, etc.

I tried looking them up. I couldn't find many contacts for them. I could try LinkedIn, but last time I tried contacting leads on there, I got my account banned.

Yeah well I mean, finding leads has never been an easy task lol. I can say from experience. When I had a thread regarding the deleted scenes for The Land Before Time, I would try searching the way back machine, production crew portfolios and what have you, and I almost, if not always turned up empty-handed, without a new lead to email or otherwise contact. That’s why nobody has posted on that thread since December last year.
