Ronald D. Moore's unmade? Dragonriders of Pern TV adaptation

On April 2, 2001, Ronald D. Moore (of Star Trek: Next Gen. and DS9, and Battlestar Galactica fame) was going to shoot a Dragonriders of Pern television show, adapted from Anne McCaffrey's series of that name. This did not happen--WB came back with an awful script rewrite and Moore, being a fan of the novels, pulled the plug.
However, in the book So Say We All: The Complete, Uncensored, Unauthorized Oral History of Battlestar Galactica by Mark Altman and Edward Gross, Felix Enriquez Alcala mentions that the Pern production was looking for a director, found someone else to shoot the pilot with, and then came back to him to work on the show later (parroting back the shooting style he'd suggested to them in the process, for whatever that's worth). There might be an implication there that something was shot, at some point, and I am curious if that's true.
I'd also love to know if (since they were about a day from shooting when it got cancelled) if there are set photos (possibly from New Mexico), costumes, cast info, or anything else out there. I know Moore was talking about VFX with people: are there dragon effects shots? Concept art? Anything? One of the news articles mentions 'the birth of a dragon under the night sky'-- were there practical dragon hatchlings? Have any materials come to light?
