I know this may be controversial, but I can’t be the only one who thinks lost commercials and tv bumpers are kinda overrated. I respect your opinion if you like them, and I’m not saying they suck, but only finding them has gotten very old at this point. At least something like a cancelled movie like Me and My Shadow, B.O.O or Larrikins to mix it up a little would be enough to change my opinion on this year lost media-wise, at least a little bit.

True. Hopefully lost deleted scenes and cancelled movies are next. There are hundreds of films from the 70’s-2000’s that have lost deleted scenes, and they usually don’t get much attention from film preservationists (likely due to the belief they simply no longer exist), but just because they believe the scenes are lost forever doesn’t mean they are.
Don’t get me wrong, lost commercials and tv bumpers are nice to find, but only in small doses. I hope 2024 will be the year for lost film media. *EDITED*
note from dycaite: I've removed the last part of that paragraph, please don't encourage theft/leaks here.
We are running out of "holy Grails..." hopefully lost English anime dub adaptations are next...
To that I say that the community must broad its vision. There's a lot of amazing lost media subjects from other parts of the world that the English-centric LMW just ignores. I made a thread about one of the most egregious cases of lost media in the history of Italy, yet nobody cared because it is about Italy and not about the USA, despite it being about 300 lost promotional cards made entirely of 24 karats gold (here it is in case you're curious: forums.lostmediawiki.com/thread/8322/sommo-luminescente-24k ). I agree with the OP, seaches for things that weren't really lost to begin with and NSFL stuff is dragging this community down, alongside its English-centricity.
An English language organization with English speaking members will mostly be interested in English language media? Shocking.
It's less about "Well, most people here speak English, so most people are going to focus more on English language media." and more about "There's not a lot of room for any kind of discussion of lost media in other languages, because they either get ignored or instantly shut down."
There's a language barrier when it comes to lost media of this type, which IMO easily explains why many users simply ignore these threads, since searching for leads may seem too difficult. But the disdain that many users have for media such as non-English dubbing is weird, and can easily discourage others.
I mean, there's a difference between active disdain and simple disinterest. The language barrier is probably sufficient to explain a lack of interest in non-English content, and as for dubs, disdain wouldn't be all that unreasonable.
Not everyone cares all that much about lost things with historical significants which I can see why it's frustrating. I think that it's primarily due to people only wanting to find things that mean something to them, or on occasion, just to get recognition. Take for example me. I don't really care all that much for historical stuff unless it relates to something I enjoy. That's also why I'm so determined to find Sam and Max freelance police, because I like Sam and Max, despite the fact that the game doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things. But that's just my opinion ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I get where you're coming from, but you're treating something totally subjective as if it's 100% objective. No piece of lost media is more important than the next, and getting upset that there is more of an interest in lost pilots or commercials than other forms of media isn't going to change anything. Why not create a new thread for a piece of lost media you're interested in? Why not help contribute to a topic you're passionate about? Shrugging off the community as if it has "gone downhill" because a greater amount of people are looking for a certain subject you're not interested in personally is counterproductive and won't help the matter at hand.
I agree. i'm also not super into bumpers and commercials. But i'm still very glad when those things do get found! I can't feel upset if not everyone is interested in finding things *I* find interesting. Preserved media is preserved media in the end.

Very true. Commercials and bumpers shouldn't be as prioritized as they are right now. I love the nostalgic feeling bumpers give me, but it's getting really repetitive, seeing so many people looking for them.

Yeah, I agree. I don't mind them all that much, particularly when an interesting case pays off (ex: Hate Hurts You and Now They Hear It All the Time).
But as a whole, them taking the amount of priority and, I guess, sense of importance, over other media never really sat well with me. I should preface that in this context, I mean advertising that's predominately American (and to a lesser extent, British and Canadian). When it comes to international (non-American or Western) media, that I'd actually like to see more of because there's so much unique stuff out there and it's a nice change of pace to see other countries get representation.

Definitely. There's so much non-western media that goes lost and practically no one cares enough to try and archive it, which is pretty damn sad to say the least. With cases like Hate Hurts You, I'd say that's more of a PSA, so I don't mind them as much as I would mind some random lost commercial from the 90s.
