Well shit. So does this mean getting the DVD from either a trust-shattering Pixarian or someone who isn't one, has it and is willing to share it? On the plus side, getting in touch with Flip Phillips not only proves that Pixar DID do those Toppan Printing ads, but also reveals he has copies as well as a demo reel of Pixar ads in chronological order. Hey, those TP ads weren't mentioned on the DVD!
UPDATE: Looks like the Pixartalk guy doesn't have the DVD, so maybe he got his list from Pixarian assistance or something. So, what do we do now?
I've got a significant update, but not for the better... Coincidentally after talking about it on the LMW discord, the next morning I finally find a reply from Oym-Museum. I sent him two replies and...
Welp, that was our one lead that wasn't knowingly a Pixarian thus free of "internal Pixar use" and gift = not rip status.
So there was this one promo of Ed, Edd n Eddy that had what seemed to be an extended version of the theme song with some trumpet improvisation at some point:
Getting in contact with the series composer through his website's contact form, I actually successfully got a response back from him with the following:
Now, if he wasn't mistaken, this would mean the specials' music would of been prepared for at the same time as this promo was made or something. Checking the specials themselves, I don't think the halloween/xmas/valentines specials at least in their credits had this trumpet composition in them. I sent him another email with this info in it.
So there was that McDonald's Incredibles ad where Dash and Violet are at McDonald's, and I saw at least two people claiming there was a longer version. And sure enough, I found an alternate ad with different animation displaying different toys, albeit not in English.
So perhaps there was a combined 30-sec or so length version that had all of this footage in one ad. And even if not, the English version of the alternate ad (which presumably exists) is still at large regardless.
Well it helps that it happens to be a DVD containing various lost content. I've messaged Oym-Museum again recently to no response as of yet, so at some point maybe I or we could heavily reblog his posts with the subject of the DVD in hopes that they'll notice and finally speak out about it
There's like around 70 or so Pixar ads alone, with even the found ones presumably being in better DVD quality, plus several other things. UPDATE: The Oym-museum guy seems to have been active on Tumblr in the last two hours according to that green notification thing in Tumblr messages, so they're at least still alive and using their Tumblr account. I've message them again.
This is pretty interesting. I feel that this part of Pixar's history is ignored, even though it shouldn't be. Is this all the information we have on it? Does anyone know how many copies were made? and if ripping the disc could be considered "disrespectful" to the employees, where else could we find the contents of the DVD?
Well oym-museum presumably may not be any kind of Pixar employee and they had a copy, but it's been a year since they posted on the blog and hasn't responded to my enquiries about the DVD I guess maybe if we kindly ask some Pixarians we could at least get more information of the DVD's particularly elusive content in the form of the DVD's production information available with at least the Television content.
