Back in 2001 I was able to try a rather odd arcade rhythm game that was being played tested at an arcade in Ikebukuro. It was a fairly standard rhythm game, except that you played it with kitchen utensils. Like, you would use a spoon or a spatula to hit pots and pans to play the game. I actually had a little bit of camcorder footage of the game, but it got accidentally recorded over later. Unfortunately I never got a name or company for the game, which has made looking for evidence of this game almost impossible. If anyone has any idea of what this game is, or where I could try looking for more info on it, please let me know!
Sorry I went through the list of music video games on Wikipedia and couldn't find anything. However, I only ctrl-4'ed for Arcade and looked for games from around 2001 (so games from the 90s to 2003). It's possible it could've been a failed port of a rhythm game from another console. Both Parappa and Um-Jammer Lammy have had limited arcade machine releases but originally debuted on consoles. Or because of Taiko's popularity it's possible it could've been a knockoff or some kind of bootleg.
I looked up 2001 Ikebukuro arcade footage in English and Japanese (2001年の池袋ゲームセンター) but couldn't find anything but footage from 1991.
I would love to know as well because I love rhythm games!!

Thanks for trying! I'm pretty sure I saw it at Sega Ikebukuro Gigo. It was on on a top floor, which seemed to be mostly used for location tests. I was hoping someone would know of a database of Japanese location tests that could be used to research this. I'm still kicking myself for losing that footage! I think my brother taped over it with skateboard footage.
As a fellow rhythm game fan I hope we can find more information about this game. This might be a helpful database to use: arcadechirashi-db.net/ I'll continue to searching as well, best of luck.
Update: It turns out the footage I had of this game was NOT erased, and I've finally gotten around to uploading it to youtube. Here's a link to the video, with the footage of the mystery rhythm game at 5:57: link.
Unfortunately I only managed to capture about 5 seconds of the game, but there's enough that the name can be made out: Nanta 2000. There's scarce information online about it, other than that it was made by a Korean company called iSolution Corp, and it's mentioned in issue 2 of Official UK Playstation 2 magazine:
"Despite the success of the various incarnations of the Bemani genre, it seems that ideas are running dry. Now same developers are turning to increasingly bizarre renditions on the theme. Korean firm iSolutions, have unveiled Nanta 2000, where players employ kitchen utensils to keep up with the beat. It may be going a bit far trying to woo female players to the arcade, but at least the PS2 version won't require any extra peripherals... GW "
So, there you have it. If anyone has any further info or videos please share, thanks!
