I actually really want to go back through all those sites sometime and check out their fan fiction sections because I bet we'll find a decently-similar, if not totally spot-on fan fiction that's exactly the 3 Men you remember reading.

Cause that's exactly what happened to The Angry Beavers. The "lost pilot" ended up being a previously lost fan fiction from 12 years earlier.

I'm pretty certain the OP is referencing The Brothers Grunt, which aired on MTV in the mid-90s, and was made by Danny Antonucci.

There seems to be some kind of Mandela effect here. I think this whole thing seems to possibly derive from some kind of confusion between The Brothers Grunt and Beavis and Butthead (the concept and animation of Beavis and Butthead seemed to be pretty influential on Ed Edd n Eddy). That's what it sounds like.

Well, I think that that's just what kids look like in Danny's style. I wouldn't read into it too much.

FWIW, I was a member of The3Eds from 2008 until its closure and I very specifically remember this hoax (there were a LOT). It sprouted from some shitty Wikia and AnimatEd back then affirmatively said "this doesn't exist". He had contact with a few AKA Cartoon staff and I'd put complete weight into his word.

Word-of-mouth isn't too useful most of the time but there's no real way to debunk this.

Amen to that. The only lost Ed Edd n' Eddy media I can think about is the extension to the theme song... and that is heard in a promo where the Eds run from a riding mower...
