I still wouldn't take it for granted that the image is the real deal, it could very well be an edit given it's not a new angle nor does it feature any drastic changes in position of the head/mouth other than the open eye(s). I'm skeptical myself that it's legit, but I hope the ending does turn up someday.

Do you know if any Dutch copies of the film are on ebay? It would be nice to have a Sleepaway Camp style situation on our hands where the only decent copy we can get of the source material is from out of the country.
Wow, some of those look DVD quality. I think they could be re-integrated, but I'm not surprised it's not since the discovery was made so close to the release date. A lot of editing and digital cleanup would have to be involved. That being said, that fan edit looks great when they only had a few days max to work on it. Even sound design was pretty seamless.
For those wanting to see the scenes as they appeared unedited from the VHS tape, someone has uploaded that. www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ly5xH-sEeU

Awesome. Thanks for including this one. Does anyone know if it's on Archive yet or should we not bother with the release date coming up?

Are we talking about the collectors edition box set that got released? Footage is sadly not in the box set.
If it was that easy to find than that means the ending is probably in someone's closet just sitting around
If we knew who worked on the Pamela effect it could help track it down.
I missed this comment, but that would have been Carl Fullerton, which unfortunately I think it's safe to say he's been accounted for considering his involvement in this recent release.
Fullerton only had access to the unrated cut of the film before it was sent out for rating certification; the smiling head scene did not make that cut and would likely be lying amongst some unedited dailies (like the Final Chapter footage). It's worth noting that Fullerton did see fit to include the final cut of the scene in his demo reel tape. People can feel free to double check me, but it looks like the clips of Jason jumping through the window and the closeup of the head are the same as the R-rated version.
