(I’m aware there is already a thread for Playhouse Disney shows as a whole, but it’s a bit outdated and I felt like it was best to make a thread for PB&J Otter specifically.)
As we all know, several Playhouse Disney shows had or have numerous episodes considered as lost. One show that has been overlooked however, is PB&J Otter, due to the episodes being freely available in fairly recent memory, then becoming... lost again? Something like that. The show’s not ‘lost lost’, just ‘kind of lost or scattered all about’, which is why I made this thread.
The show’s availability history:
The show originally aired on Playhouse Disney from 1998 to 2000, for a run of 65 episodes across 3 seasons, and ran in reruns for several years after that. The show never had any VHS or DVD releases.
A few months after the Disney Junior channel launched in 2012, PB&J Otter began airing reruns on the channel. This stopped in 2014.
In 2016, PB&J Otter was made available on the Watch Disney Junior mobile service. I don’t know much about how exactly this worked, but it seemed like the complete series was made available to watch as long as you put in your cable info. However, it seems like the series can’t be watched this way anymore. (Likely disappeared when all the ‘Watch Disney’ services merged to form Disney Now in 2017.)
And that’s the availability history of PB&J Otter. The series has yet to make it to Disney+. I used Disney+’s support chat back in March and there were no plans to put PB&J Otter on there at the time according to the person I talked to. Although hopefully it will get on there in due time if enough people request for it.
As for availability of recordings fans have provided... the best source for episodes I could find was this:
archive.org/details/pbjotters1e03bagpipebluesyoucantcomein_202001
However, it’s still not great. About 17 or so half hours are missing, and the episodes that are there are in poor quality. Several episodes are in a squished ratio for whatever reason, the series finale “Goodbye Lake Hoohaw” is in bad quality, and the beloved episode “Hope Castle” is in bad quality and also has the audio be high pitched.
According to this DeviantArt post, there was once a PB&J Otter Wiki user named Splouge who had a Google Doc that contained the entire series, but it was all deleted a few years back.

As for other possible episode sources... I talked to CDCB2 a while back, and he said he has several, but not all, episodes that weren’t on the Archive playlist, as well as possibly several other already available episodes in better quality, but he’s been busy with several projects, including NickStory, so it’s best not to bother him about it.
In addition, one half hour is available on YouTube; “Dare Duck/Otters of the Wild”. The same person that uploaded that episode posted a few more episodes that have been blocked by Disney and can’t be viewed. Several clips of the show uploaded by various channels are also available.
And that’s the story of the sort of kind of lost PB&J Otter episodes. I don’t know if anyone on this forum is even interested in helping out, but I thought it was worth a shot. I love the show and I’m sad that it’s difficult to find episodes. Any help finding episodes of the show, especially in good quality, is highly appreciated.
Thanks.
