also there is an unofficial VHS release of Star Wars Episode III - Revenge of the Sith for NTSC floating around the internet for quite a while. This isn't the official US release of it, so its fan-made and also bootleg.

The film has been painstakingly restored by Mike Verta in 4K from every possible film source available. youtu.be/G3W_O-tp0_g I had previously forgotten about it after his Vimeo went dormant, but he hasn't abandoned the project. It was well received when pitched to executives at Disney, but there's really no indication on the status of an official release. In fact there's really not much we can do as fans besides letting Disney/Fox know there's interest in this project.
Personally, fan restorations never really did it for me since they're usually cobbled together from post-Special Edition sources that were digitally composited. I want to see the originals again, but I also want them to look nothing short of fantastic. I think they deserve that at the very least.
Have you heard of 4k77 and 4k83, they're fan restorations that are 4k scans from original 35mm prints, not "cobbled together" from SE sources. I think they are the most authentic way to watch the films like they were in the cinema
Lucas is just the type of person who is never satisfied with their work, even after completion. So I suppose it makes sense that he would edit and edit and edit and toss aside anything that doesn't satisfy his insatiable desire for perfection, even if he decides to wait decades before suddenly deciding that it's just not perfect enough.
And that's one reason why people hate him.
