However, the catalog series that featured these stopped publishing in 1994, one year before the RPG plushes came out. This is why we don't have a set sheet for them and also why almost every other Takara set post-1994 doesn't have a set sheet (Banjo Kazooie and all the Donkey Kong Country sets to name a couple), and on top of that the catalogs were Japan only.
This was a revelation to even me... thanks LQ!

Since I was linked here I might as well bump to say the set sheet has finally been found:
All there is to wonder is why Mallow is so rare... maybe just packed low or the same prototype that has been sold twice... this we're less likely to get an answer to.

Surprising to see an official set picture found. I thought this was one mystery that was never going to be solved.
In addition, the full picture contains almost the entirety of the Kirby’s Dream Land 2 and Kirby Super Star plush sets, with the exception of the Super Star small Kirby. I don’t think we had an official set picture for either of those plush sets, and they’re both fairly obscure, even in comparison to other pre-anime Kirby plush sets. I’ve known about both plush sets for quite a while now, but it’s great to have a high quality picture of these plushes.
So yeah, mystery solved. No Geno plush, but it’s still super satisfying to see an official set picture after all this time.

I'm going out on a huge limb here since this topic is really niche, but if there are any other video game memorabilia collectors out there, or fans of Super Mario RPG in general, this might interest you.
Similar to how I made that thread about the 24 karat gold GBAs (which no one had even seen pictures of before the thread was made), there's a similar case of a missing collectible which has become rather infamous within the video game merchandise and Nintendo merchandise collecting communities.
There are many, many, many Japanese plush toy sets of Super Mario, and they range from all sorts of games, like Super Mario 64, Super Mario World, and even Yoshi's Island.
Super Mario RPG also has a plush set based off of the game, however, it is EXTREMELY rare, and some of the most coveted Nintendo memorabilia comes just from this plush set alone.
The set features plush characters of Mario, Yoshi, Boshi, Mallow, a Mushroom, and a Star....however....
After 10 years, the community has only seen the Mallow plush appear twice for auction on Yahoo Japan Auctions. And we also don't have any pictures of him aside from the distant shots in the auction (meaning that it's possible he isn't even an official plush, but a well made custom).
So while that's mysterious enough, there is an even larger mystery about the set.
We have no idea how many more characters there could be and have never been able to verify it.
There is a strong possibility there could be a Geno, but we've never seen any pictures. And with Mallow almost evading us completely, we can't conclude no pictures=no existence, because maybe he's just super rare.
So all in all, we have no idea if the Mallow floating around is official, and we don't know if a Geno (or other characters) exist.
Banpresto made these plushes, so someone from the company must have designed them, approved them, and released them- therefore someone out there knows the truth behind this mysterious set.
Hi supersonic! Those plushies are likely official due to the other Mario RPG plushies, also there’s a ton of clip bait around the geno plush which makes it even harder to see if anyone actually has it.

oh sorry, I guess I was just a bit to excited that a YouTuber that I’m subscribed to just made a post, I’ll read the full post next time, thanks for letting me know

I posted the tweet a couple messages up... the translated text reads: "I got a magazine for children of the first grade of elementary school, I am looking at the page of stuffed animals, but Gino does not seem to be in the stuffed animal of Mario RPG ..."

I tried to see if any new listings on ebay were created for one of these plushies but nothing came up, oddly enough when I searched “Super Mario RPG Ban Presto” all I found were keychains that they made for the game, Ironically Geno has a keychain. These also seem to be rare, or a ton of the listings are overpriced.
