Well, on a more positive note, I would like to share a photo of Chris that I restored and colorized a while back. It's on the tumblr page as well. Last year I started practicing photo restoration, and this was one of the first on my to-do list. I wanted to do this picture because, aside from basically three pictures and a newspaper article, there is nothing left of her in the public consciousness. I'm sure a lot of people think that's "for the better" or whatever because of the nature of what she did and because of how long ago it was (and maybe it is, but that isn't for me to say one way or the other). But I just find it sad, knowing she sought connection with people in life. She was denied that and is also denied that posthumously as well. That's just my view, anyways.
Thank you, tapesignal. This is beautiful and it's both a very welcomed and deeply appreciated change of pace for the thread.
Couldn't agree more. I feel that the search for "the tape" has come and gone. At this point all I really care about is archiving material around her as she lived her life.
^Thank you guys. It took a long time to do but it was worth it to me. There is another photo of her from the same photoshoot that I’d like to eventually colorize too.
I’m also of the opinion that any discussion about Chris regarding lost media should focus on footage of her while she was alive. I feel like the whole “search for The Tape” thing is disrespectful and distasteful. The poor woman felt so sad and alone that she used her last moments to try and connect with others, as morbid as that is. At least that’s what I think she was trying to do, in her own way. The conversation around her now should be about mental health, helping others, and preserving footage/photos of her while alive (without contacting the bereaved). I don’t think anyone should have ever been searching for the suicide footage in the first place, personally. I don’t mean any disrespect towards anyone in this thread by saying that, but it’s just how I feel. Especially now that the audio was posted last year.

If it ever is found, I’d like to know (without linking it here of course). Or if the source of the audio was ever discovered, that’d also be something I’d be interested in knowing, I’m sure others would too. I can’t watch that kind of stuff anyway, but it’d be interesting to know. That being said, there was a user that claimed to have (non NSFL I’m assuming) WXLT related footage but no way to play it. I reached out for more information, but no response.
Here’s my guess as to the origin of the audio: the audio which was posted on YouTube last year is a transfer of the original cassette made by police. The police, in order to obtain her last words for the police report, sat down and recorded the audio of them playing the video footage. That’s why you hear the gasps - the police are sitting in front of the ampex machine (or whatever was used to play back the reel of video tape) and they reacted to what they saw on the videotape. The audio starts in exactly the same place as what’s written in the police report. The jamming of the tape and the exchange between Chris and the camerawoman is cut out because they didn’t need that audio for the transcript. As far as to how someone obtained the audio from police evidence… I’m not sure about that one. Maybe extras were made and someone smuggled it out of the station. Then it sat around for 40+ years until someone decided to upload. That’s my best guess.
Yes, I obviously did listen to the audio a while back. Don’t know why I decided to, but I did. Again, I feel the discussion should be about finding footage/photos of her while she was alive. But I’ve seen a lot of speculation online about the audio and I wanted to give my thoughts.

Someone suggested that theory a while back. I kind of think the same thing. There’s a certain point in it where you can hear talking in the background too (sounds like maybe it’s coming from a TV) though it’s impossible to make anything out of it without audio analysis tools of some sort.
I’m all ears/eyes waiting for someone to post footage of her doing what she loved. Steve Newman says he has it (footage from her doing her show) but is not willing to release it. I don’t know if anyone ever tried contacting the studio which would have it if it was around in an archive somewhere. I don’t think that’d be against the rules here so (unless someone says otherwise) maybe someone will decide to do that and share it with us should they come into some.
Any archived footage is probably either on a 2” (quadruplex) tape reel or on a u-matic cassette. It’s my understanding that the reels were often reused. But if you wanted a long-term copy, or were making a master tape, then it would be on u-matic. Both of those formats obviously need specialized equipment, especially the videotape reels. There are only a few functioning machines (and people who can use/service them) left to get footage from VT reels. Not as sure about u-matic.
So even if that footage remains in storage, if it’s stored in the original format, that presents the problem of getting it converted to digital so it can be preserved permanently.
I’d also be interested to know if ABC or the Sarasota affiliate has any archived footage of Chris’ show.
Edit: I also want to add that I remember the creators of the 2016 Christine movie saying they had access to a 15-minute clip of her show. E! Network must’ve had access to that footage as well, because part of it is used in the 2006 short documentary. Don’t know if they got it from Steve Newman or somewhere else.

Update: As this has become somewhat of an obsessive research project for me, I'm providing a large collection of "clippings" related to the CC story from Newspapers.com. Doesn't look like you have to have a subscription to view them. While I'm sad that most of the articles are (obviously) about her death, there are a few early articles about the opening of WXLT, the camera operators, and a few rarely-seen photos of Chris. I hope everyone had a good thanksgiving. Click here for the newspaper collection.

I finally restored and colorized the other photo from the “striped shirt” photoshoot. I can’t say that I’m super happy with it. But the lighting is harsh so that made it difficult. I just wanted to share. Please let me know if there’s anything I can improve on it. Thanks : )
Edit: I decided to delete the picture, as I thought it wasn't very good and would like to improve on it drastically before posting it online (edit 9/2/2023).

I'm posting just to give everyone a small update. My research efforts have obviously slowed down during the holidays, but I'm still working on it. If I find any new photos or footage, I will post them here first (assuming I'm given permission by their owners, of course). In the meantime, here are some photos I found from the newspapers. One is featured in the Boulevard of Broken Dreams episode, but this is the actual microfilm scan. Another is of Chris posing by a sand sculpture that she and her brother Tim had made during a sandcastle contest. Unfortunately, its kind of hard to see anything in the photo. I've also found some pictures of Chris' coworkers. Enjoy.

Don't fuck with DXers, we have the audio to back it up. I heard the John McCain "air pirate" tape a long time before it resurfaced because I was listening to recordings of Radio Hanoi.
I guess it wasn't EifelDX, I'm sorry for posting wrong info.
Sarah Boucher is a DXer herself and a contributor to the Shortwave Radio Audio Archive.
I don't think the audio is from Pat Dyer. If you look at his DX TV logs from 1974 (https://www.qsl.net/pjdyer/1974tvdx.htm) he only lists WXLT-40 for March 30th and 31st 1974. Christine died that same year on July 15
My guess is that the source of the WXLT-TV 40 Sign On comes from one of these days. And it was just a coincidence that Sarah Boucher uploaded on Youtube the audio of that Sign On around the time Christine's audio leaked.
This doesn't rule out other DXer as the source of the audio, however, I'm also more inclined to the "police cassette" theory as the most likely source.
Update: I'm currently searching for the regular Suncoast Digest footage (not of the incident of course, but the one about zoning petitions). I called WWSB (formerly WXLT) a while back and was told they don't have any archival footage from that far back in time. The person I spoke with was very nice and advised me to contact ABC. I then emailed ABC, and was told that they don’t have the footage, don't have any information on it, and don’t know who the rightsholder is. I'm still working on it, though. If I'm able to get the footage (and permission to share it, of course) then I will let everyone know. I'm not holding my breath, but I really hope I can find it. I also want to state that I will not be contacting Mr. Steve Newman, as he's already strongly stated his position on the footage and has chosen to not release his copy of it. Although I disagree with his opinion, I will respect it. No one else should contact him either.
If anyone - either on the forums or the internet as a whole - has information about this footage, please don't hesitate to contact me. Here's everything I know about the tape:
On this Suncoast Digest clip, Chris is interviewing mayor of North Port, Marge Gentle, regarding zoning and the new Lemon Bay Hospital. Proposed land for this hospital is North Port / Mineral Springs. The discussion around the new hospital was happening primarily from April 1973 – December 1974, according to newspaper searches. Also, Christine was not hired at WXLT until early 1973. Therefore, the clip is probably from between April of ’73 and July ’74. This is the only episode of her show, other than that of July 15, that is known to be recorded. It runs about 15 minutes in length.

I believe Suncoast Digest didn’t start airing until late August or early September of 1973 so that narrows the episode window. Someone should scour newspaper archives to find its first broadcast date.
Craig Shilowich, screenwriter of Christine (2016), probably can tell us how he acquired the footage that he used as a reference.
