Hey all. So I was reading an article at “the New Yorker” called “A shocking suicide, a long lost friend and a movie trailer.” Where the writer spoke to an employee at WXLT who knew Christine. In the article, the employee is quoted as saying, after getting a call from the program director, that they were “Dubbing version after version” of the tape in question, before the family was able to “put a clamp on it”. The reason I am posting this is because, I’m asking, doesn’t this dispel the narrative that there’s only one copy in existence? Not saying I want anyone to look for it or anything like that, just something that came to mind when reading the article.

Here’s the thing about that: it is assumed that those copies were tracked down and destroyed via the injunction placed by the family. I do think there was assumed to be a copy in Sarasota police vaults as late as the 80s, but that copy was probably destroyed, as well. I know it came to be a great shock that a copy did exist that is now in hands of the law firm. I will not rule it out that maybe a copy fell through the cracks initially. I however believe the audio we have is from a different source.
I am in the process of receiving more WXLT recordings. Will keep updating.
Still holding out to see some of this footage. This, and watching the small bit of footage from Kate Plays Christine got me thinking about what Steven Newman said. By NOT releasing his footage of Christine; doing what she loved; does that not leave the rest of us with not much to focus on other than her end? All we know about her is her end. No transcripts of her shows that I know of. The only other audio out there that I know of, other than what is in Kate Plays Christine, and maybe an extended version of it from the Blvd of broken dreams documentary is the recently leaked/found audio of her final broadcast. Couldn’t we more easily try to remember her/find out more about her than the end of her life if indeed Newman released the footage he has that is not if her death? I guess what I am trying to say is, that in not releasing the footage he has, all we can focus on is what we know and what we know is what he doesn’t want the rest of us to focus on.

Just wanted to say as someone who worked with AI audio software (Deepfake) hundreds of hours of recorded voice is required to get vocal mannerisms to sound pretty convincing, even then it will still sound a little bit 'off'. This is why we can replicate celebrities pretty well as they have countless hours of movies, interviews and podcasts to pick from.
This is certainly not the case with Christine's voice. Prior to the tape in question, only a few seconds of her speaking are available publicly. But if you do analyze her confirmed voice from Kate plays Christine, you can clearly hear that Christine has a very distinct voice, accent and way of speaking. All of these exact mannerism are clearly present in the suicide audio recording. Especially the accent, I am from Southern Michigan which is near her birthplace of Ohio. We share the same accent.
I've been following this story since I first stumbled upon it online back in the mid 90's during the dawn of the modern internet. Absolutely no additional footage or photos of her where around then besides the only one used in the news articles from the 70s. So instead I dove into the articles and really read into her personal life and I wanted to know more about why it ended the way it did. She grew up in a good environment with a caring family. She had a morbid sense of humor and was focused on her career. As we know she was single, a virgin and reaching 30 struggling with a love life, dates, men. Ah, the judgements of 50 years ago. If this was today, it would be much more socially acceptable.
However I never really 'got' it until I married a girl who very much reminds me of Christine (purely coincidental). She is also tall, thin with dark hair and struggles with deep depression her whole life and was even hospitalized for attempted suicide. I met her when she and I were 25. Like Christine, she also struggled to find men who could 'tolerate' her. She would go on date after date and they would go running...until I found her, except I fell in love with her. People on message boards say "Christine was pretty, why couldn't she find someone, or if she found someone it would be different'. My wife wanted the same thing, she got it, however she is still suicidal many days. I remember he once crying on the floor saying she has everything she want's why does she still want to die.
My wife has seen dozens of therapists, taken every antidepressant you can. Countless nights of lying on floor trying to help her, be with her. Me feeling resentment that I am not enough to help and helplessness that I can't help anymore. Only be there. She exercises, has a healthy diet, practices yoga and self well being, takes proper vitamin supplements. We have had 3 children, they have actually helped her. However her bad days can turn on a dime. And I sometimes baby her like protecting a fine jewel, which doesn't help either. She has pretty much accepted that she can't ever be cured, only 'just barely make it'.
My point is that clinical depression is a livelong illness, you will always have it. Christine would of still had it even if things worked out in her love life. Some of us make it out alive, some of us don't. It's very interesting the way she handled things, and yes irresponsible. However, clinical depression definitely clouds your rational judgement and Christine was in a very dark place at that time. If she died alone in her room, we wouldn't even know she existed. It would be a single obituary not even mentioning suicide. Her death brought awareness at least and how difficult it is to the treatment you need.

With all due respect, you dont have to participate in this thread if it's not your cup of tea. Frankly, it's not mine either, but nobody has done anything wrong that I can see since the new rules have been laid down. (If they have, please report it or PM me or another mod.) The dialogue has been pretty respectful, which is all we can hope for.
I think it's best at this point if we let the people who are interested in Christine discuss her career/the case (as long as there's no talking to survivors or NSFL links posted) in peace rather than poke the hornets nest and endlessly fight among each other.
but nobody has done anything wrong that I can see since the new rules have been laid down.
Have the new rules been posted anywhere yet?
Besides this thread, admittedly no. I'll talk to Dycaite or one of the other admins today about making a sticky post at the top of this sub-forum. (I believe that's within my purview as a mod but I don't wanna overstep my boundaries.) Hopefully we can get that up within the day.
There were some rules established within the post, namely No contacting people involved with/concerning NSFL posts and No links (don’t think it’s site wide but I’m not sure but definitely not in NSFL posts.)
Something weird. I listened to the audio again, to see if maybe I’ could find any clues as to where it came from. Around the 1:24 mark you can hear some other talking in the background that sounds like either someone watching or listening while recording or another TV playing. Thought I’d put this out there for those who might have the apps or equipment to figure out what it is (IF indeed anyone does)

This could actually play into a theory I have concerning the origin of this audio.

This could have been covered before but I am not sure. Do we know the PSA and movie that were shown immediately after the incident? Also, does anyone know the Roberta Flack songs that were played at her funeral?I know there were three of them.
