We've unlocked this thread with the caveat that it is now to be the only place in the LMW community to talk about Christine Chubbuck. Please do not discuss it on the Discord from this point on.

Think it would be a better statement from you guys to just keep this locked. It doesn’t need to be found and probably won’t ever be.

I think it was actually locked because of the drama that you can see above on this page.
Like it or not, a lot of people in the community are here because they want to talk about it. Denying them the right to do so entirely would only cause them to act out and talk about it even more. We're limiting it to a single thread for the entirety of the LMW community; I think that is a fair compromise.
There is also a new rule regarding found NSFL content - none of it is to be posted anywhere in the LMW community (no exceptions). You can talk about found NSFL media, but there are to be no more links, whatsoever.
Furthermore and to clarify: there are to be no more links posted in this thread, whatsoever.
I don’t see it posted here so here goes. I attempted to contact Sally Quinn to see if she could confirm or deny the authenticity of the audio. She never responded, but according to a tommyservo on Twitter: “Gordon Galbraith, a former WXLT employee, has even confirmed to me the audio is not legitimate, as the purported 16 mm jam actually occurred at a different point in the broadcast than the audio recording presented currently.” Here is a link to his Twitter, the tweet is recent. He’s evidently been involved in research on thus before (it may even be mentioned in this thread somewhere) twitter.com/TommyServo

It was not kind to ask that of Sally Quinn. Please just leave these people alone. If they want to talk about it, they will.
Literally this. This thread was locked for a reason not just because of the arguments but also the harassment which lead to the leaking. Unless any of you want Greg Chubbuck knocking on your door with a legal notice, talk of this stuff should be banned community wide. I don’t care if there’s countless individuals out there with a morbid interest in someone’s death footage, you gotta look at the whole problem, not just part of it. It’s gone too far at this point IMO, it’s one thing to be curious about something and another to harrass multiple people hoping they’ll hand it over when they won’t.
Greg and multiple others are still grieving and now the very thing he doesn’t want going around is because of people in this very community, think about that.
Ah boy, well, you’re entitled to your opinion. We will just have to agree to disagree. From what I understand, it was locked because of arguing. After this response, I will not be responding to any posts attempting to debate the ethics related to the search for this lost media.

It's not an opinion to say that shoving a traumatic recording in someone's face and demanding they relive their most terrible memory for your selfish benefit is unkind. (And believe me, I'm choosing my words as charitably as possible.)
Frankly, I think the amount of entitlement it takes to do a thing like that is nothing short of audacious. As if these people don't have lives or emotions of their own outside of what's convenient for you. Your nonchalant reaction to being called out on it speaks volumes as well.
Here's two opinions I *will* throw out though: the fact that, with all the fascinating culture there is to research, a distressing number of people choose to focus on a brief, grisly, well-described suicide video says a lot about human nature. (And none of it good.) I know Dycaite offered his reasons to keep the thread open a few posts ago but I think it's the wrong call. This thread is a magnet for attracting scumbags to our community who have no interest in preserving art, who just revel in filth and fling it at other people without a damn what it does to them.
Edit: I see you've since edited your post in an attempt to take the high ground, but I will go ahead and say you refuse to debate the ethics because deep down you know you have no leg to stand on. If the mods want to re-lock this thread or reprimand me for being argumentative about this, I don't care, it needs to be said.
