Have there been any cases where a piece of media being lost is against the creator's wishes? As in, the creator & producers of it want a piece of media to be available to the general public, but for whatever reason can't? Such reasons can be: Legal issues The companies not seeing that media as high priority Evil hoarders who just want it for themselves Someone REALLY hates the creator guts, either because the creator has done some bad things or for very petty reasons It's just lost & no one knows where it is
The only one I can think of is ISMA World Championship Racing for the unreleased 3DO M2, in which the game's programmer wanted the owner of the prototype to release the ROM so people can play it, but the owner not only refused to do so, but also LIED about him. Yeah, an absolutely awful person.
The directors of the Batgirl movie were against the deletion and shelving of it, and tried to get footage of the movie for themselves (but were unable to access it).

Idk if this counts, but the 1990 Tokyo Toy Show prototype for Sonic The Hedgehog was originally going to be included as a bonus in Sonic Mega Collection, but Sega apparently lost the ROM for it, which means that the prototype is most likely lost forever.

Ooooohhh, nice one!

I made a post on this story recently, but the youtuber Oddheader wants his lost Mythica.com videos found. Since Mythica is a long-gone website, there was no choice in personally saving those videos, especially in the era prior to internet preservation becoming a more widespread concern.

Necessary bump so it can be moved to LMW Discussion. Also while not 100% related as it's not lost, but apparently/allegedly the Goodies themselves have suspected that their own show is being suppressed by the BBC. As in, some powerful executive would never let the show air again despite being a very successful show that's far less politically incorrect than other shows during & after its time period.

Ah man, I just got here in time before it gets moved. For my suggestion, I say Baby Blues' second season falls between the "media being lost against the creator's wishes". Warner Bros nor the creator of the comics refused to release what material was made for season 2, assuming it didn't get destroyed by WB. I have starting to fall in the newspaper comic strip rabbit hole recently, with Baby Blues being one that sticks it together when it comes to looking up comics on my phone. I'm always interested of how The WB didn't treat their later primetime cartoons (Baby Blues, Mission Hill, and The Oblongs) well compared to their other primetime series, Pinky and the Brain and The New Batman Adventure. And even then, both are also on Kids WB. And while Adult Swim eventually saved all three at once, only the latter two fully completed their one and done seasons, while Baby Blues, being the only series that had a second season ordered, ended up with the only season aired.

Guessing you got here faster than someone with the power to move threads could. I've also requested 2 other threads to be moved to LMW Discussion, such as this one.

The Land Before Time. Don Bluth tried to reason with Spielberg to keep some of the then-would-be cut scenes in the film and a couple other scenes, but Spielberg didn’t budge and the film was cut down from its original 82-minute runtime to 75 minutes by the time a copy of this cut was handed to James Horner for scoring, but after that, Spielberg decided to further edit the film, including changing the original ending.
While Bluth doesn’t seem to outright hate the theatrical cut, it was clearly not the cut of the film he wanted to release, and he seems pretty hopeless on the idea of the deleted scenes ever resurfacing, believing that “they were swept up from the cutting room floor and dumped right into the trash. They’ve long been destroyed.”
