When I watched Puss In Boots: The Last Wish in theaters, I didn't really know why a lot of the internet loved it. It was just meh to me.

I feel like another reason is because I played more platformers as a kid, such as the original Sonic trilogy, most of the Ratchet & Clank games on PS2 & PS3, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Super Mario All-Stars' Wii rerelease, Sonic Unleashed & Sonic Generations. It's not really just nostalgia speaking, they also kinda gave me a sense on how I viewed video game controls & 3D environments. If I'm in an open world game, I want to be able to easily take my character around & thus 3D platformers with tight controls are what I'll think about. Something like Uncharted would mess with my natural instincts too much for me to really enjoy it outside of technical achievements(and I've played & enjoyed Robotron 2084 with its controls for Pete's sake!). I LOVED going through the hub world in Sonic Generations & the tight controls alongside the physics are a big reason for that!

Another reason could be because I feel like journalists cover them WAAAAYYYYYY too much & praise them like crazy, which makes me trust them even less than I already do(and I didn't really trust them all too much back then).

Yet another reason(because of course): When everything is cinematic, then the game portion gets lower & lower. Some of them have like minimal gameplay segments compared to the cutscenes which can drag on & on & on & ON & ON & ON & ON & ON & ON & ON & ON & ON & ON & ON & ON & ON & ON & O-

Reason #Potato: It has become too costly to be doing on a basis, the gameplay can easily become underwhelmingly dry, there'd probably be a bajillion game-breaking bugs during launch times, it is the EXACT same formula copied over & over again, it does not bring in casuals into video games in a good manner like what Wii Sports did, Half-Life 2 made sure that most of the game was something you can actually control &...

What I guess I'm trying to say here is... if I wanna play a video game, I want to play a VIDEO GAME, not a whole bunch of cutscenes with very minute gameplay segments that don't control to my liking. It's still a video game technically, but not enough to call it a full blown game. That's why I avoided the PS4 until this year & even then, I've only played Sonic Mania on it & for obvious reasons.

I think this video is a good sorta look into what I mean... somewhat, as it's from someone else, but I guess it applies in some way, or maybe it's the best explanation as to why I don't care about them. IDK, there's just something about cinematic games like these that don't feel right to me & it's been bothering me for so long:

Yeah, for all you hear about how anime found its place in youth culture in the United States in the 90s, other countries were WAY earlier than us on that front. I had heard it was due to "more lax" copyright laws, an already existing comic culture, etc. Same for Mexico. There's a reason Candy Candy, an anime set in America, has no presence there but is ICONIC in Mexico (and tons of other places). It's also why anime tastes can get super different when people talk about what anime they were fond of growing up. A lot of Nippon Animation stuff, Candy Candy, Captain Tsubasa, Rose of Versailles, some tennis anime (forgot the name), all had major presence abroad but almost none in the USA.

I personally quite enjoy my cinematic games and don't find most of them boring at all but there are some that definitely missed the mark due to their cinematic obsession like Order 1886 and the Assassins Creed franchise. They give me a satisfaction that films just can't achieve, for me if Last of Us 2 was a film it wouldn't have stood out to me nearly as much, to me it did a great job of integrating gameplay and story.
