Also I fucking HATED The Ring remake and never understood how anyone found it scary, it just annoyed me and bored me, original is way better. I hate most of the American remakes of Japanese horror films in general but especially that one.

Yeah books get tricky because writing styles, much like directing styles, simply don't appeal to all people, so it's sometimes hard to say if a book is "good" or not. Three more book examples from me:
1. I couldn't make it through Divergence because of just how bad the writing was (IMO). I assume people latched onto this one because shipping and Hunger Games mania and baby's first dystopia.
2. I got The Little Prince book as a birthday gift as a kid and could never muster the stamina to actually read the book despite its short length. Like I'd start it or sample it but could never finish it.
3. I own all of the Harry Potter books. I have read them exactly once, and so far have zero desire to ever read them again.

I also never got the sheer craze around American remakes of Japanese films. The Grudge (2004) was one of the most popular movies when I was in school, like people were OBSESSED with it, and I finally watched it anddddd.......it was...okay? Like I don't remember it being anything particularly special?

I hated the first two American Grudge films, 3rd one and the recent remake were fine though.

I liked the Divergent movies, never read the books though so couldn't comment on those. I too only read the HP books once but I enjoyed them, I don't think one needs to necessarily read a book more then once for it to be good, especially not when it's as long as those books. I just simply don't have time to read any of them again.

I'd say it's at least sizable at this point, but much like the Office, no idea if it's because the show has been overquoted and overexposed (IE people are just sick of hearing about it and how "amazing" it is) OR if people genuinely watch several episodes and just don't "get" it.

I know some people hate it cause they claim it's a rip-off of Living Single(which is debatable for me)and some don't like the show's overall lack of diversity which is understandable and there is admittedly some stuff on there that hasn't aged so well but I do think some people on social media were overreacting to it big time.

Maybe it's because I've just been "too old" for a while now, but The Notebook (2004). Another movie my classmates were BEYOND obsessed with. I swear it was like a mini phenomenon then.
Film is EH. But maybe my classmates didn't watch it for the "quality," but the "swooning" and "OMG it's like Romeo and Juliet/poor boy and rich girl" and "RYAN GOSLING." And so in that respect, I don't know if even they would have called it a good movie then.

Insulting historical inaccuracies(especially in regards to how a certain crew member was portrayed as a drunken coward, his family was NOT happy when the film came out and Cameron actually had to apologize for it, if this came out in the age of social media people would not have forgiven him for that so easily)weak acting(Leo and Kate have like zero chemistry and have to be hands down one of the worst couples in a film ever)lame dialogue("king of the world" makes me want to barf in disgust), terrible love story, languid pacing and it's way too fucking long for it's own good at 3 goddamn hours.

Harry Potter, both the book series and the movies. I tried reading the first book, Harry Potter And The Sorcerer's Stone, when it first came out in 1997, only got about 5 pages in and said, "Yeah, I'm done." I think that J.K. Rowling is absolutely terrible as a writer, and couldn't force myself through more than that. Despite this, I tried to give the first movie a chance, but maybe at least in part because of my negative bias towards the book, I just couldn't finish watching that, either. I will never understand how anyone, child or not, can read any of the books or watch the movies in full.

I think those books were written pretty well though i'll admit the series is a whole is a bit overrated. I used to think the idea of the books were dumb when my sister had them, but one day as a kid I got bored and read the first one out of curiosity and ended up liking it more then I expected and I checked out all the rest and the films and liked them overall(Except for those fuck-awful Fantastic Beasts movies).

My mom and sister(and my dad kinda as well)all love the films and listen to the audiobooks quite a bit as well.
