I'm surprised too, I didn't think anyone would seriously still be this upset that a film that came out 15 years ago dared to be mildly critical of organized religion(and the film is fucking tame compared to the books so the Christians that bitched and cried over that film should've been thanking their lucky stars that the film was holding back on criticisms compared to the original materials)

Interesting, another film with an alternate cut that deserves to be seen is the 2009 film "Fanboys" the saga surrounding that one and the Weinstein Company(ugh)is worth a whole documentary. Basically the movie was shot WAY back in like 2005 or so and the Weinsteins didn't like the subplot about the one guy dying of cancer(which is the whole reason the main characters wanted to break into Skywalker Ranch to see the movie before it hit theaters, without that subplot the characters just come off as jerks)eventually the director Kyle Newman sort of got his way as he got to keep the cancer subplot but he got a stipulation that the film had to be EXACTLY 90 minutes long forcing him to cut some scenes he quite liked(and he's not legally allowed to screen the directors cut version to anyone, though with the Weinstein company now defunct i'm not sure if that's the case anymore), there was also another alternate version done in 2008 with reshoots by Steven Brill and there were test screenings for both versions and audiences got asked which version they preferred and Kyle's version was preferred and the Weinsteins tried to sabotage him, i'm a fan of Brill's movies and i'm curious to see what his version was like.
Newman also had a lost/unfinished film made during that time-a Revenge of the Nerds remake, it fell apart because the only college that would let him film there was an all-girls school(as other colleges had had bad experiences with filmmakers in the past with them creating a big mess and not bothering to clean it up)and once they found out what kind of movie he was making him and his film crew got kicked out before filming was completed, forcing him to abandon the film and resulting in it's cancellation.

That schoollege should have just let the man cook. As for the fanboys film, we have to see both of them test screening cuts.
I wish test screeners were leaked more often tbh. It would be a nice way to see what got changed or cut, instead of having to take a test audience members word for it.
