Yeah, that isn't normal to be that afraid, friend. These bills have come and gone as another poster mentioned, and hopefully this one fades away too. Second the therapy suggestion.

The real risks here IMO are loss of access to vital health/life saving information for vulnerable individuals (think: LGBTQ+, BIPOC, non-religious, etc.), leaking of personal info which can then be exploited for illicit purposes (blackmail, fraud, monetary theft, identity theft, etc.), an inability to debate controversial topics such as we are doing here, being unable to confront actual problems like misogyny or bigotry, an inability to access life saving drugs (such as miscarriage related ones), etc.

Think how according to some news outlets, China isn't even allowing prominent speakers admit there is ANY sort of crisis in terms of the youth unemployment rate or property crisis (let's just NOT publish those youth statistics, and if you do, then you are censored immediately!). Or Russia not allowing anything other than glorious news of their "offensive" in Ukraine. Or North Korea not allowing anything whatsoever that criticizes their leadership in any way. Or Iran not allowing discussion of women going without hijabs. NOW imagine being censored/blocked/removed for daring to discuss any of that on social media. Like if you are viewed as sympathetic or critical of the "wrong" group IE not towing the line ____ group wants you to tow, then BOOM, content scrubbed. Heck, maybe with an AI or algorithm of some type, not even a human being. Want to mention "murder" uncensored on a crime themed post? Well, too bad, because a 6 year old might see it and get "scared" so now you have to mega censor it with tons of fluffy rainbow unicorn vomit, assuming you can post about a crime at all! Exactly.

Would all of that also apply to individuals who are 18 and older?

I am a former Kmart associate that shovels up old memories every so often.

Words like 'unalive' are already becoming an unironic part of some people's vocabulary, even offline. I think using language that intentionally obscures things just makes kids more curious about topics they probably shouldn't be looking into, anyways.

* I know of at least one political event we aren't allowed to post about too explicitly online in the UK, for example. Not gonna elaborate on that one, but more things are currently being censored than you would imagine.

Yeah I remember all the furor over SOPA and PIPA and that ultimately amounted to nothing and I don't see this law happening, at least not for the entire U.S., a few red states might try to pull this crap but I expect that to be challenged in court.

From what I've seen it moreso applies to kids & younger teens, but this part is just anecdotal lol. Probably just picked it up from Youtube/Tiktok, though I don't think it's something to be hugely concerned about, just interesting to see the impact of this sort of thing.

This just makes my paranoia MUCH WORSE PAL as I MYSELF am a vulnerable individual(a gay 17 year old male in a red state known as Tennessee) & atheist(I like my sci-fi space video games thank you very much). The former in particular ESPECIALLY would mean that the bill would theoretically allow some homophobic women(who would likely be older & more physically capable than me, despite not really being "fat" myself) to find me & gangr*** me & it will be awful for me. Like, you clearly had no idea that I am a vulnerable individual & thus I am a perfect target for potential abusers.

There's no need for this kind of anxiety. Unless you personally wronged these hypothetical stalkers (I'm talking sending them threats/hate messages/giving them an actual reason to dislike you instead of just being a random gay person on the internet) then they have no reason to find you. And again, this is all hypothetical. A woman/multiple women spending money on a plane ticket to beat up a 17 year old is next level insanity, and I don't think that ANY one regardless of political background would be stupid enough to do that.

Most of the worry towards doxxing situations applies to social media "influencers" and those with a prominent internet presence like YouTubers. If you're just some guy, then no one is going to bother trying to find you. If you still feel paranoid, I would invest in a VPN.

I feel like Youtube and Tumblr have been the canaries in the coalmine here, think about how much you could get away with on Youtube or Tumblr even just a decade ago vs. now. I get wanting to "protect" your audience and give them a "more comfortable" experience, but at a certain point, it's ridiculous having to tiptoe around so many arbitrary rules about everything. Especially when it feels like there's no consistency or reliable standards. And yeah, social media sites are trying to "censor" themselves, but they pay a price in loss of authenticity when they do that.
