Yeah, usually their demo reels show the email, but the problem is that they usually only say it’s for hiring purposes. They never say anything about requesting footage from something they worked on but I’m not sure they would allow it either.
I think if they do agree to it, not much bad will really happen, since dreamworks likely stopped caring about these movies years ago, and they clearly are never gonna be finished. The worst they will do is try to take them down, but after a while, they’ll probably give up. If you’re profiting off leaking them, however, then it becomes a problem.
So as long as nobody is profiting off the release, it should be fine. Tbh, in addition to possibly misusing the email, there’s also the fact that I just don’t know how to write an email. I could look it over like, 100 times, and it would probably still end up being treated like spam and deleted.
There’s also the fact that the director and other people who worked on the movie would likely sue the leaker. Tim Minchin, director of Larrikins, probably wouldn’t care, and maybe even encourage it, as he was pretty pissed that 4 and a half years of work was all for nothing.
Tony Leondis, Director of B.O.O, and whoever directed me and my shadow would likely not take as kindly to leaking, as while they were sad the movies got cancelled, nothing in their quotes really struck me as “go ahead and leak it, I’m fine with that”.
There’s also the fact that the demo reel animators made their name known publicly, so they can easily be pursued in court, whereas the reason the popeye movie got leaked was because of the person posting it being anonymous (The user was “Chip Butty”).
If they do agree to leaking them online, I’d suggest they also make an anonymous throwaway account where they can post the movie on YouTube, and hopefully a Google drive or internet archive link too.
