Media that is lost due to Creator Backlash

Van Partible's attitude regarding Mess O Blues sure seems to suggest he's not fond of it.

Jerry Lewis hated his Unreleased film "The Day The Clown Cried" so much he did everything he could to assure it wasn't released. The footage is supposed to be released next year though

I believe blameitonjorge just stated werner herzog has some film he don't want out.

Lets not forget george lucas don't want the original cut of star wars out and Dan and Dave don't want the original game of thrones pilot out.

If its true, walt didn't want the mickey/minnie sex tape released. And maybe the creator of popeye and betty boop don't want that rumored sex tape out.

I think there are other examples but I can't think of atm. I won't count marilyn mansons groupie since I don't recall he having an issue with it getting out. And I don't count the accident stuff like owen hart fall, steve irwin death tape, etc., that stuff wasnt planned by the creator but isnt being released due to backlash.

Like, he’s legally not allowed to destroy the copy? I kinda hope that he at least allows it to be released after he’s dead, since he wouldn’t be around to be embarrassed by it’s release. 

Plus, they’d have to be insane to even wipe the film in the first place. It’s 2023, what kind of sane person is throwing out perfectly good movies nowadays? I feel like if anymore cancelled movies are getting leaked, this one is next, I will 100% download it, and I will refuse to delete it, just like the popeye movie (I’ve had it for over a year now).

Yeah, it actually leaked online over a year ago, and can still be downloaded on the internet archive. It’s an animatic, likely the most finished version of the movie before it got cancelled. I would personally rate it a 7.5/10. The storyboards are expressive, the sea hag makes for a great antagonist, Tom Kenny plays popeye very well, and the plot, while generic, isn’t too bad. (It’s popeye searching for his dad, “Poopdeck Pappy”.

I did hate the obnoxious fish character though, and Olive’s screaming is also annoying.

Honestly, this one makes me hope more cancelled movies get leaked. Do you think if maybe I reached out to an animator on say, B.O.O, Larrikins or me and my shadow, they’d be happy to just share a copy? (Ideally the most finalized version that was made before the cancellation to give the best idea of what the finished product would have been like’.

Also, just to bust a rumor here, Popeye was never replaced by The Emoji Movie. Sony pictures didn’t acquire the rights to make the film until July 2015, with the popeye film having been cancelled in March that same year. 

Had the popeye movie never been cancelled, we would have probably gotten both movies. 

Oh, right. Didn’t think of that. Sorry. I guess the idea just never came to me when writing the original post.
