Lost/Found Media that didn't live up to the hype

Yeah, it’s a shame. At this point, if for example, a perfectly intact negative of London After Midnight was recovered in good condition and got an official release, a lot of people,here wouldn’t give 2 craps and a doorbell chime, but when a different foghorn sound effect variation in a spongebob episode is found, people go apeshit with excitement.
It got to the point where back in the summer this year, the official lost media busters Twitter account seriously posted a tweet that asked “Can something be considered lost media if it was never released” or something like that, with a gif of spongebob and Patrick thinking hard. Like, yes, obviously it can still count, in fact those are the most interesting pieces of lost media. Honestly, how did part of the community even get to this point where they are asking these questions? No offense to the lost media busters, but come on!
At the end of the day, everyone had their own interests, but at the same time, I wish more attention could be given to lost media that has a cultural significance, like being connected to something far more well known, having cultural significance, having an interesting (and sometimes abnormal) story to be told, etc. Lost commercials and bumpers are only nice when they are found in small doses, otherwise they usually never live up to the hype.
Obviously, I can’t change what people are interested in, and that’s fine. I can never wish for everyone to be interested in lost films, deleted scenes and the like, because that would create the opposite problem. I’m just saying it needs to be more balanced between things that are more trivial but are nice to have anyway, and things that genuinely have some cultural significance to them.
Anyway, sorry for potentially derailing the thread, just wanted to add more to springy’s point. He was spitting facts though.
