I remember reading about this some time ago, although I have a weird feeling that I came across a copy of the script online (and thus didn't do an article for it; this was back when we didn't accept articles for already found stuff)... Maybe I'm confusing it with something else. But yeah, I'd say that's eligible.
I made this LMW wallpaper a while back and posted it somewhere on the old site (I can't quite remember exactly where)... Anyway, while tidying up my backup folder recently, I came across it again and figured I'd post it here for anyone that might want a copy
I'll transfer my articles over, ad I have a few I have been wanting to write, but have been waiting for the switch. I can't find the new page button on the new site though.
Just type the name of your article in after lostmediawiki.com/ (eg. lostmediawiki.com/Example article title); you'll then be presented with the option to create said page.
UPDATE 08 Jun:
You can now add new articles using an inputbox, either via the article listing page or the article additions section of the homepage.
The site's admittedly pretty broken when browsing on a phone. I just checked on my iPhone and it seems to work, though the text is hard to see against the solid green background. Alternatively, you could use this link to sign up lostmediawiki.com/index.php?title=Special:UserLogin&type=signup
I've decided to keep internet media a section, though it will be a standalone category for those kind of articles (eg. an article on a lost, animated internet episode would ONLY go in the Lost internet media category and not in the Lost animation category). Also, to warrant an article, the creator of said piece of media has to be fairly well known (as in, with subscribers in the 10s of thousands or more; something like that). I think that'd keep most people happy.
-Check lostmedia.wikia.com for any missed articles (ie. articles that have not yet been added to the old site's article listing) (Mostly done, though I still come across the odd missed article) -Make site layout more intuitive and user friendly -Make site display better on lower resolutions and mobile devices -Weed out irrelevant articles -Rename articles according to new formatting guidelines -Categories overhaul -Finish revamping articles (mammoth of a task - long-term goal) (I've personally revamped a fraction of the site's articles, but this goal is going to take a long time) -Implement article 'class' ranking system (This goal is for further down the track, when the new site is on more stable ground)
DISPLAY: -On some lower resolutions, the shoutbox displays outside the bounding box. -Every now and then, when viewing the site in Google Chrome, the text displays outside the bounding box.
TOP X LISTS: -Articles with apostrophes in their title cannot be added to any lists; attempting to do so results in a database error. -When more than 10 articles are added to a list, one of them will become invisible from that point onward.
If you encounter any other issues with the site, please let us know in this thread and we will endeavour to fix them in good time.
For some reason, a lot of articles are displaying with the text running outside the boundaries (though seemingly only when using Google Chrome)...
Is this happening for anyone else using Chrome? Just trying to determine whether or not it's a problem that only exists on my end, as I suspect it may be.
Thanks to everyone who expressed interest in volunteering with the new site As I have now got my admin rights back at lostmedia.wikia.com, I'm not in such a mad rush to get the new site up and running (which is relieving because I would much rather take my time with it and make it as good as possible, rather than being forced to rush out a less-than-perfect site). As such, I think the amount of volunteers we currently have is plenty (though I will also soon register ubis122, nickmad55, aeonicbutterfly and The Negotiator; after that, I think we'll have more than enough people for the time being).
You'll notice that it now appears on each page too, which I think is a great improvement over the old one.
Just a reminder too that lostmediawiki.com is still very much a work in progress; we're more liable to run into errors and it'll take quite a bit of hard work, patience and time until it is ready for its official opening, so please keep that in mind.
why not just create a bot to download all the stuff on the pages like videos pics and text and then put all that in folders according to category and then have all the articles in there own folders by like text pics videos, but if not i will help as well
I actually have a current backup of lostmedia.wikia.com that I made with HTTrack, so I have all the images, text, etc. downloaded (I've also downloaded about 75% of the videos used on the site). My media backup is quite similar too, ie. separate folders for each article. If however, you are referring to a bot to automatically transfer the articles over, besides not knowing of any way of doing that, I also wanted to fix up all the article titles (or get them roughly where I want them) before moving them over, plus I wanted them broken up into lots, as I currently have them; it makes things much easier and straightforward for me to manage.
OK great Either add me on Skype or Steam and we'll take it from there.
Just a note to all the people I've currently registered: please, at this point, don't do ANYTHING other than copying source text over (ie. go to the lostmedia.wikia.com article, hit edit, go to source mode, copy the contents and paste them into their respective blank pages as per lostmediawiki.com/Article_listing). I don't want any images uploaded (as I am going to be renaming many of them for easier organisation and accessibility) or any of the content changed (I will go through each and every article myself and touch them all up; there's no point making little edits here and there if I'm going to revamp the whole article in the end).
I went through today during my spare time and quickly filled in the lots that needed their contents copied over, this should give you an idea of what I am wanting from you guys. I'll continue adding blank article lots from here on in; feel free to transfer some of them over (just, if you decide to do a particular lot or lots, let me know which ones you've picked).
Yeah, if you don't have Skype, you can contact me via other social media like Steam. Also, while it does sound like a good idea in theory, how do we then go about importing the database download to the new site? For the record, I've already made a HTTrack dump of lostmedia.wikia.com. In any case, it's good to know the option exists to request a database dump, so thanks for letting me know
