Hello, beautiful people! As you all may recall, starting with the Harry Potter book series (classified under YA in some libraries) and its MASSIVE success, along with the Hunger Games/Twilight and THEIR massive successes, there was an endless hunt for NEW YA novel adaptations that could bring in the MAJOR moolah.
I thought it would be an interesting idea to discuss the YA book adaptations that never happened and what lost media might be associated with them. We can also discuss ones in development hell. If this isn't close enough for the "Lesser Known Media" tag please move to Off-Topic. Here are some examples I can think of:
theicemarkchronicles.fandom.com/wiki/The_Cry_Of_The_Icemark
Exciting YA fantasy novel listed as in production for a movie circa 2006-7. Nothing ever happened AFAIK.
Ender's Game
This one DID actually happen, but none of the sequels got adapted. Wonder what was canned here?
Divergence
See above, the production process of these movies is a thread in ITSELF. Y'all want a TV movie? XD
Spiderwick Chronicles
One movie, nothing else. I think the movie did okay and I liked it personally.
Seeker: The Dark is Rising
I don't even want to know how BADLY this one did. Were sequels ever planned out? Who knows?
Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment
Flailed along in development hell for YEARS until it finally "got" an adaptation via Apple Movies (I think?). A really bad, low budget one from what I heard. Anyone remember when Avi Arad (X Men) was supposed to be involved with this one?
The City of Ember
Got a first movie, but not a second or third. Coming out in the year of a major global recession probably didn't help.
Molly Moon series
A darling, very British series about a girl who learns hypnotism. Was listed on a list of "coming adaptations" circa 2006. Not sure if anything came of this one.
Please add your own examples and information to my own!
