I'm a huge fan of Japanese street style, and I've frequently visited JapaneseStreets.com for several years.
That website has been online since 2002, and the photo blog at www.japanesestreets.com/photoblog/ is still accessible, but the photo archive at www.japanesestreets.com/photos/ has disappeared. I have no way to access the full photo archive, and only a few pages from the photo archive can be accessed through the Wayback Machine. This is upsetting because the photo archive, like the photo blog, was a treasure trove of cool street style, and I really want the whole photo archive restored.
I also emailed the website's creator, Kjeld Duits, if the photo archive could be fully restored. He emailed me back, and he told me that he had to move the website to a new provider, and to quite Kjeld, 'Everything went very fast during an extremely busy period and I fear it is not very clear in my memory. It appears that the data in the "photos" folder was not moved. I do not recall if this was done on purpose, or forgotten.'
Kjeld also said to me, and I quote:
'I agree with you that it is worth rebuilding this archive. I am not able to rebuild it as it was, but I might be able to rebuild it in a new way.
This however would take several years as I have no budget for hiring people and I must do everything myself. There were close to 19,000 images in the archive, so this an enormous undertaking.
Another option would be to have books printed, but I do not know if any publishers would be interested.
Now that I am aware of this issue, I will add it to my long-term planning list. However at this time I cannot make any promises.'
It clearly will be a long and difficult task for Kjeld to rebuild the photo archive. But does anyone here have a way to fully rebuild or restore the photo archive?
