Missing episodes of the 80s Alvin and the Chipmunks

Damn, 80s Alvin and the Chipmunks is one of my top nostalgic cartoons...

There was a rare VHS that contained "The Maltese Chipmunk"  along with the episode "Dear Diary".

And you know what? I HAD THAT VHS AS A KID!!! And it's gone now! 

I also remember watching a VHS that had "The Wall" and "The Amazing Chipmunks".

Those VHS tapes are not mentioned on the VHS list on the Alvin Wiki... so I am guessing they were rare exclusive releases (British I think?) or bootlegs.

I got linked to this thread while my friend and I were on our own hunt for information about these episodes.  I decided to join and help update this information, because it's a little incomplete. 

There are currently 19 episodes of the 80s Alvin and the Chipmunks series that are missing in English.  Years of searching from numerous members of the Chipmunks fandom led to us finding 17 of these episodes in Italian.  An Italian speaking fan then translated them all and English subtitles were added to them.  (They've been uploaded here with other episodes from seasons 6-8)  This is as close as we've been able to get to the original English versions.  The Italian copies also left all of the episodes' songs in their original English language.  So we were able to recover those as well.  However, there is still one episode that only exists in German, with German dubbed songs.  (I've uploaded this one here).  And another that has been found in Spanish with its songs still in English, but with very poor audio quality.  (I've asked the person who sent it to me to give me the episode again because it is unfortunately trapped on a broken laptop.)

I've created a list for my twitter campaign.  I'm just going to post that here instead of trying to type them all out again.


I also have some information that may help with finding them.  These episodes were never syndicated in the U.S.  So they only aired once.  But they did air in the UK on CBBC possibly as late as 2001.  I've found recordings of other episodes from season 8 (Chipmunks Go To the Movies) that we already have from that channel.  There is also a VHS tape that apparently released in the UK called "Phantom of Rock" which is rumored to have contained the episodes "The Phantom", "Queen of the Highschool Ballroom",  "Three Chipmunks and a Puppy" and "Phantom of the Rock Opera".  But to this day we have no actual proof of its existence.  All of the other UK VHS tapes have surfaced online except for this one.

These later seasons also aired in Australia.  Though the channel they were on is unknown (or at least, I can't remember what it was right now).  

And as far as at least finding the songs from Irrational Buffoon's European Vacation and S.T. The Space Traveler in English and in decent quality, the Italian, Spanish, and Swedish dubs of the series left the songs undubbed.  Those would be useful as well.

Since I joined the Chipmunks fandom in 2012, three episodes that were previously missing were found in English.  But the audio quality is very poor.  As I wrote on the list, they're not a priority, but better copies would be appreciated.  I left an episode off the list that I forgot about when writing it.  "The Legend of Sleeping Brittany" is another one with poor English audio.  The first few seconds of the episode are also missing.  And it's been sloppily synced with the German dub's video. 

That's about all I can think of right now.  So I will end this post here.  If I find any more information,  I will update it.  If anyone here can help with this in any way, I, and all of the other Chipmunks fans, would greatly appreciate it! 

The Splash parody is called "Sploosh" and was released on the 2012 DVD "The Valentines Collection" along with the episodes "Dr. Simon and Mr. Heartthrob", "Dear Diary", "Theodore and Juliet", the Chipmunks Valentines Day special, and the "I Wish I Could Speak French" song segment from The Alvin Show.  The episode was actually entirely lost up until a TV recording popped up just a couple of months before the DVD was scheduled to release. 

The other episode you're referring to is "Alvie's Angels" and has actually been released on DVD twice.  First on the "Cinderella, Cinderella" DVD and again on "The Chipette Diaries" (with its title changed to "Alvin's Angels" for some unknown reason).  It's also available in full on the official Alvin and the Chipmunks youtube channel, here.  Also the song in the episode is actually an original song that is a parody of Eye of the Tiger called "The Beat of the Jungle".
