The year is 2009, and my family had just set up a desktop computer complete with ethernet for the first time. I spent my days on barbie, polly pocket, and pogogames, but soon that wasn't enough. I wasn't in the loop with club penguin, webkinz, or animal jam, so I ended up signing up for this strange kids mmorpg and absolutely ate it up and played it until 2013. You would log into your wigwam, and there would be a few options available to start your trek into the woogiverse. Firstly, you could access a map of the united states through a warp pad where you could choose which state to spawn into and explore. There was a customization area for your woogi, as well as a pneumonic tube elevator thing that would take you to your room that you could customize. I believe that there was also a pet area where you could care for your woogi pet and play with it. Once you choose a state to spawn in, you enter a plaza area with other woogies where you could chat (extremely censored). There were tons of buildings to explore, from what I remember there was a clubhouse, bank, store, voting booth, playground, arcade, and several buildings dedicated to different subjects to learn about. The whole point of the game was to teach kids how to be safe online through missions and games, as well as teaching different school subjects, as the whole thing was supposed to be educational. Apparently there were full educational courses you could take for those subjects, but I'm pretty sure you had to pay up to access those, so I was a casual player. What I remember the most about woogiworld was the popularity status of the woogi girls in the right accessories, and the games in the arcade. I spent years trying to find all of the right accessories from the stores in different states in order to look like them. I will include a picture if I find an example. The most striking thing about the game were the minigames you could play. My favorite one was one where you would choose different options to spend your time, and as a result of the choices, you could end up a few ways. The categories of the options you could choose were family time, chore time, gaming time, studying time, and friend time. Depending on which type of time you indulged in the most, you would end up as an extreme version of the result of those actions. You could be a brainiac, a workoholic, etc. but they had more specific and silly names than that. If you managed to balance your time, you would get the good ending. Another game that I remember which was quite popular was the shark game, aka the og amongus. You would be a fish and hide from different types of sharks that would catch you. Both the fish and sharks were other woogies online.
I was there in the sites heyday, as well as during its sharp yet slow and painful decline. I stopped playing woogi world in my schools computer lab around 7th grade, yet still logged in and checked the site sometimes after. It started with things just not updating, then the base of players growing up and leaving just as I did. After some time after stopping, the state servers were completely dead, save some random singular woogi who was afk somewhere in the states. They made an effort to rerelease woogi world as an app, I remember seeing the ads on the site, but I really doubt it was successful as woogi world was completely shut down some time later. I was heartbroken to see my favorite online game completely gone, and without so much as a whisper. Nobody I knew irl knew about woogiworld, and I havent seen anyone online really talk about it. At the end of the day, woogiworld was an educational and very safe online environment for children, probably as a crunchy alternative to the big kids mmorpgs of the time. Their mission was to educate about internet safety and also be an educational tool all wrapped up in a kids mmorpg format with games. Theres more information about the site here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woogi_World Also, if you played and by the off chance remember rhiannon123, hi!!!
