RuneScape is an online game originally created as a browser game in 2001. It has become very popular, with over 300 million accounts created. But although the game was being continually updated every week, the developers did not start making full version control backups until 2012.
However, if you have any old computers or hard drives that you may have played RuneScape on, even just once, there's a very good chance you have a missing version. The game's files would be downloaded then stored in a hidden location on your computer. We have made a search tool that will automatically scan a drive for the relevant files and combine them into a file that can be uploaded.
Hopefully because of the sheer number of players who ever tried the game, we should be able to recover every version.
Wasn't runescape a browser game? Not a downloadable?
RuneScpe was a browser game (although nowadays you have to play it via downloading the client) but either way if you were playing it via the browser or the downloadable client, it would've saved game assets as cache files.
Relating directly to the topic at hand, I did play RuneScape on my original PC back in the timeframe of some of these missing versions, unfortunately right now I'm unable to actually access and use that old PC because, well, let's just say there's some stuff blocking access to the monitor and keyboard right now and I don't have a mouse for that PC (plus I'm not even 100% sure if it even still works).

I'd love to play pre-eoc era but after the old-school rs era again. They, unfortunately, didn't back that one up... Also, I'd love to play the version of rs where the party room was in Seers Village and not Falador as I have very vague memories of that being a thing. Also the version before that statue with the archeologist was north east of Varrock. Yes I played a lot of Runescape lol

What exactly do you mean by that? The way I see it, the EOC came out during the 'OSRS era' (RS 2). Of course, there would have been 'old school' versions without the EOC, but they did have backups of them. They even used one of them to create OSRS, in fact.

I mean like 2008-2011. Osrs is based off of 2007 rs and eoc came out in like 2012 or 2013 I believe. Runescape HD came out during 2008-2011 it's when that popular youtuber Tehnoobshow made most of his rs content. Before eoc but after the backed up 07 servers.

Sorry for the late reply, as the other poster said the game files were downloaded and stored on your computer, so you didn't have to spend time redownloading it every time you played (10MB was a lot in 2004, would have taken half an hour if still using dial-up)
Anyway since my original post we have recovered two new versions, 18 October 2006 (revision 433) and 17 October 2005 (revision 340).
