I decided to test my ranking skills on something interesting now that I am undergoing my Disney animated series phase. My thoughts on what theme songs that I favour may change over time, but take these rather outlandish opinions. Feel free to share your thoughts and own choices below. Also, note that the show's quality has no effect on the song. I want you to provide legitimate criticism, please. Note that this is not how I would discuss shows in full detail (and I may talk about the shows themselves in the future).
EDIT: I removed TaleSpin and The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh in favour of two other entries. Basically, I revised entries 7-10. I also rewrote my claims on each song.
Number 10: Marsupilami
Just to be clear, fewer Disney Afternoon introductions than you anticipated are here. Starting this list is an upbeat jungle-style song about Marsupilami, Sebastian, and Shnookums and Meat. Like Bonkers, it is more popular than the show off which it was formed. Honestly, I was unsure of what would go on the list anyway and decided on the last minute to use this (despite mass consideration of over fifty introductions).
Number 9: Bonkers
I know what you are thinking: you hate it because Bonkers is annoying. I like it, though. Not only is the music energetic. Bonkers reminds me of myself in a way—with our awful voices, this song almost seems relatable. Admittedly, though, I got a headache the first time I heard it. As time passed, though, I began to develop a passion for it.
Number 8: Raw Toonage
This show may be less popular than its spinoffs mentioned above, but its introduction out bests them mainly for the musical approach. I love the instrumental choice here. It is simply charming—and that is all that I can really say.
Number 7: Donald Duck Presents
This does technically qualify as the episodes are cartoons. I wonder if anyone was expecting something from before Disney Afternoon anyway. I did enjoy Good Morning Mickey and its introduction for being timeless. This, though, has a 1980’s vibe that I absolutely love and cherish (the show premiered in 1983). It reminds me of great songs at the time and really makes me want to see what “Donald Duck presents.” (It is longer than anticipated, too.)
Number 6: Adventures of the Gummi Bears
I did hint at there being some Disney Afternoon songs here. Considering that this was among the first Disney animated series, you would expect Disney to make a great theme song (unlike now, when it simply seems that anyone can make some pathetic soulless show while profiting off Walt Disney’s name). The soul in this one is intense and sends chills down my spine. It makes the show look epic and enjoyable, which it is. However, sharing it with simply anyone who does not recognise it could result in some funny reactions. I like the visuals in this version more than the others.
Number 5: Mickey Mouse Works
For an instrumental theme song, it is strongly motivating with its complex 3D visuals--good for 1999. The ending adds a bit of special charm, just as this show's existence was exemplified to be (not to mention that the ending changes for every episode—something worth noting in theme songs that may show different things like Dave the Barbarian or The Buzz on Maggie).
Number 4: House of Mouse
The visuals italicising the show's concept with the great music is what sets this song so close to number 1, though there were better songs that were stubbornly acquainted with their top three spots as you shall see. The music alone is fine, in other words, but pairing it with the scenes of all those Disney characters watching the presentations award House of Mouse the number four spot on this list. "So come on in, we're gonna shake the house."
Number 3: Brandy & Mr Whiskers
This theme song was nominated for an award for a reason. I would like to know, though—why do people say that this show is not gross or surreal despite the theme song clearly exemplifying this (whether these people are whining or minding their manners)? Could I review this? To do that, I would need to watch the dubs and understand why people like this show because I cannot stop cringing at the humour. Video is below with…
Number 2: Kim Possible
Because obvious. Reviewing it would be too repetitive. How could I discuss a James Bond parody that has a high sense of feminism, anyway, when so many people have praised it for being such? For more information, "call me beep me if you want to reach me."
Number 1: Darkwing Duck
This song has great lyrics with chilling singing talents. Seriously, listen to how epic the music is when you know that “when there’s trouble you call D.W.” Not to mention that subtle reminder to get dangerous with him. Just remember: “Better watch out, you bad boys!”
