Some context before I start talking - Flo & Eddie (A.K.A. The Phlorescent Leech & Eddie) are the names used by Mark Volman and Howard Kaylan after the Turtles had broken up in 1970 and they began working with Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention. Over the years they've done backing vocals for several artists, including T. Rex, Alice Cooper, Bruce Springsteen, the Ramones, etc., and created some of the music for Strawberry Shortcake and Care Bears, as well as soundtracks for the movies Texas Detour (1978) and Down and Dirty Duck (1974), in which they'd also voiced the two main characters. Under the Flo & Eddie name, they've released a total of 5 albums from 1972-1981, and had performed as such for many years afterwards.
Luckily, all of their albums are available on YouTube and Spotify, and a few other songs have been uploaded online over the years. Unfortunately, a large chunk of their lesser-known stuff isn't available online. Starting off, there's the song "Come To My Rescue Webelos", which was released on a single alongside "Let Me Make Love To You", one of the tracks on their 1975 album, Illegal, Immoral and Fattening. No one has uploaded this song anywhere online, and it was not released on anything else.
Recently, I had bought the 3xLP compilation record, The History of Flo & Eddie and the Turtles, which has some rare tracks and songs that I've yet to find online. The record includes a 16-page booklet that contains information and some history about the tracks included and Volman and Kaylan's time in the Turtles and as Flo & Eddie. I don't think this booklet is available online, either. Some tracks from it have been uploaded, but the upload is poor quality. For example, "(You're Nothing But A) Good Duck", a track only released on this record, has two uploads on YouTube, but one is too high-pitched and the other has a clip from the cartoon Camp Lazlo at the beginning (for some reason) and ends abruptly.
I'm not sure why no one has uploaded this record in full yet - it's not particularly hard to find and there are uploads of some of the tracks on YouTube, just not all of them. My copy is (thankfully) in pretty nice condition, but I don't really have a way to convert the audio to mp3, as the only record player I have access to currently that is able to do audio conversion isn't the best and skips frequently. If I can find my scanner, I'd be more than glad to upload a scan of the booklet somewhere.
HOWEVER, what IS hard to find, is The Winds of Flo & Eddie. A 7x cassette box featuring a nine hour audiobiography from Volman and Kaylan (who, according to one forum user, were stoned while recording), numbered out of 100 copies, along with an insert autographed by the two of them. A page for it was only very recently made on Discogs, and there's a small blurb of info about it in the booklet I mentioned prior. Other than that and a few forum threads, there is almost NO info about it. I am so angry at myself for not buying it when someone was selling it on Discogs for only $100 (but alas, I am a broke, unemployed teenager who at the time of seeing the listing had already spent all of my birthday money.) I think it's crucial for this to be found and archived, as it was released some time in the 80's (assuming so, as there's an ad for it in the booklet) and cassette tapes don't have that long of a lifespan, especially if they aren't taken care of and stored properly. I doubt there's many copies of it left that aren't warped or damaged. I'm hoping that I, or someone else will find this box set and have it archived.
Thank you for taking the time to read this! I've been REALLY into Flo & Eddie lately and I'm glad to have shared this info with others. I apologize if there are uploads somewhere of the things I mentioned that I just haven't found. And just a disclaimer, I know that the both of them are on social media, but PLEASE do NOT harass or try to contact them about this, or anybody else involved. That is literally the last thing I'd want ever.
