What’s interesting is that the original note on the CLG wiki was that early split-screen credits used it, implying that the usual waves crashing/seagulls hadn’t been realized yet.
I’ve looked through tons of commercial breaks and pretty much all of the ones from 2000-01 feature the end theme playing over the logo. The typical waves/seagulls one didn’t seem to debut until early 2002, maybe late 2001. So I assume the foghorn version was an early version of it.
When you saw the foghorn logo, was the closing theme version the only one you were familiar with?
I was familiar with the closing theme version and the waves/seagulls version. My memory could be wrong, but I feel like I saw the foghorn version in the mid-2000’s. Maybe it was kept around and was only used very rarely? Someone in an earlier post mentioned how Nickelodeon was known for airing occasional oddities like this, so it could be possible.

And it definitely wasn’t the cow version?
Nope, I’m familiar with the cow version as well and the foghorn version I remember was definitely different.

And I’m assuming it wasn’t something from the splitscreen credits continuing over it, either.
I’m wondering if the person who originally wrote the comment was mistaken about it being from the early versions of the splitscreen credits, since we know for sure it was aired around 2006. So far I’ve looked through breaks from 2000-2001, and nothing.

They very well could be be mistaken, as I don’t remember it being from the splitscreen credits and like I previously mentioned I seemed to have it seen it in the mid-2000’s so 2006 or thereabouts sounds right.

, as I don’t remember it being from the splitscreen credits
Wait, so you think it was on a showing with the regular credits? Then I don’t think it could have been Nickelodeon you saw it on, since they stopped using regular credits in lieu of splitscreen ones way back in early 2000, less than a year after SpongeBob premiered. So you probably saw it on the Nicktoons channel or something.

Sorry I meant to say I don’t remember it being from the early splitscreen credits.
i want to add that my best guess is that it was used in the early episodes of season 2 or late season 1 epsiodes
I’ve gone through commercial breaks from around then and all I can find is the version with the credits music playing over it, or something from the splitscreen promo continuing over it (in one case, “Who let the dogs out” continues playing over it). From what I can tell, the waves/seagulls version didn’t premiere until s3.
I’ve been looking through some splitscreen credits as well and came across something strange. At the end of these SpongeBob credits, it seems a mistake was made and the Klasky Csupo logo was shown instead of the United Plankton Pictures logo.
I also found another alternate version of the United Plankton Pictures logo where the credits play the Quest for the Best song from the Krusty Krab Training Video episode which plays over the logo.

That error is infamous in the logo community because it only appeared on the Wet Painters/Krusty Krab Training Video episode during split screen credits until around 2006 when they finally fixed it.
Rumours about it circulated online for years but it took a while for footage to surface because the user that originally posted it was apparently scared of the logo.

That makes sense, as I noticed that the Krusty Krab Training Video episode ending played before both those credits I linked. Thanks for sharing that. It’s crazy it took until around 2006 to get fixed.

Oh yeah. That’s a pretty well-known glitch that occurred with one specific episode.
Which again, makes me pretty sure that the foghorn version wasn’t attached to a specific episode, no one has ever said anything about there being a pattern there.
